Help re: local laws on livestock

Hiya,Seeing as I have found myself with a Cockerel who has recently found his cock-a-doodle, does anyone have any idea where I can find info on local laws on keeping him in my garden?Nobody has complained as yet, but if they do he will have to go.I have grown quite attached to Barry (the cockerel formerly known as Betty the hen) and don't want to get rid of him unless I absolutely have to.Any help appreciated!Sam

Hi SamOMG, this brings back very bad memories.I lived in Grove Ave, Hanwell a few years back and someone kept cockerels, hens and other birds on land at the bottom of my garden.  These cockerels were so noisy, starting to cockadoodle as soon as daylight appeared.  They made the neighbourhoods´ life an absolute misery. We had a very long and traumatic time getting the council to force the man who they belonged to to get rid of them.  It was only myself and my partner who took action to get them removed as everyone else was petrified of the so- called hard man keeping them. Hard man my backside! He was an absolute idiot.  I can´t remember if there was a particular law about keeping cockerels in suburbia.  We only managed to get them moved because their noise level exceeded the acceptable level.I have sinced moved to the countryside in Ireland where there are many cockerels and I don´t mind it one bit, the reason being is that they are not being kept too close to me.I love animals and don´t mean to be negative but it was bad.  Maybe your neighbours will like the sound of one cockerel.Good luck!

Re  I can find info on local laws on keeping him in my garden?            xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx        the local Council should be able to advise, and meantime, in order to hold on to your visitor, make sure he is safe at night, loads of foxes around in Ealing
