CPZ Chaos

At the last Northfield Ward Forum Cllr Millican refuse to add Birkbeck Radbourne and Ealing Park Gardens to the nearby CPZ. Why? They returned a "yes" vote. He said there would be no "Salami Slicing" and residents went off angry. Strange then that "salami" changes to "core" in the current round of consultations in W13 and that such additions of Lancaster Carew Lyncroft and a tiny part of Elers Road seem possible. Such inconsistency is in part the result of very poor guidance in the review produced by Cllr Barchuk and Mr Iqbal. In addition designers of CPZs have the arrogance to assume that they can plan zones without any measurements. Ealing Dean CPZ cause displacement problems from day one. No one would make a long journey by car without a fuel gauge. Such is the quality of the analysis.It would all be laughable if it didn't endanger Northfield shops. No worker parking in a CPZ + no car park = no shops.The whole thing is a shambles.

In fact the prupose of creating the confusion is that more people get drawn into the chaos. In fact Ealing Council (both past and present administrations) are probably dissapointed that the whole borough is not CPZ'd because then they could lower council tax. In fact an interesting example is that TFL has provided cash for Ealing Council to improve the surrounds of Hanwell Station. The proposal by Ealing is to restrict Car Parking space so that they can then create a CPZ around there. In fact they are putting in Disabled spots for a Station which has no Disabled access. Their submission on Crossrail for Hanwell describes the need for a CPZ. And guess what a CPZ is not guarantee of patrking outside your home!! So Arthur you are right to Highlight but remember confusion is the way to force more of us into these taxation schemes.

No real point in differentiating between administrations, I'm sure it's the Officer class that runs these CPZ games.Arthur is completely right about displacement. The Council consciously creates this and does nothing to mitigate the damage caused by it. It knows it will drive those residents in the displaced areas so nuts that they immediately clamour for a new CPZ. When the latter comes in, a new area of displacement is created and so the cycle continues - radiating out from the centre of Ealing. What will happen when Ealing CPZs reach the town's boundaries with Harrow, Hounslow and Hammersmith will be inuteresting, especially if it co-incides with those boroughs' CPZs reaching their borough boundaries!
