Hi Penny,Nantucket is certainly different to the Vineyard. It is a lot smaller for a start. Fog and rain are regular features in August here as with MV and the best weather is to be had in May/June and Sept/Oct.There is a very strict planning policy here which, for example, only allows a choice of 12 paint colours for your front door.. It is, I think a lot more scenic than MV because of the smaller scale and the large number of (externally) unspoiled period houses that were not protected on the vineyard leading to large scale chain retailers arriving with their instantly recognisable brand names. Nantucket doesn't allow any corporate signage so we don't have a McDonalds or a Burger King etc. which is how we like it..!The people who have homes on the two islands are very different too. MV tends to attract the 'Media types' TV/movie folk that like publicity, and Nantucket has the 'old money' and political powerbrokers who like to keep a low profile. We get the Kennedy clan every summer, which is a bit of both but as a rule things are more low key (and expensive) here.Living 40 miles out to sea has it's drawbacks but when the sky is blue and the beaches are warm, I can't seem to remember them..!
