Boiler problems

Anyone know a good boiler engineer? Our Potterton boiler (5 yrs old) works and Kevin has changed the PCB board (after advice from Alan B - thanks Alan ! ) ...but we have a new problem now. The fan goes off and then cuts back in again after the boiler has fired down and stays on. Only a matter of time before the fan burns out. Anyone got any ideas? Our usual boiler part man can't think what's wrong. Thanks.

we're lucky . we've got an oldfashioned condenser boiler that belches out fumes contributing to global warming like there's no tomorrow (which, of course, there won't be), of the type that was banned by john prescott. but at least the thing has no PCBs and just works, and goes on and on. had one of them new-fangled combination boilers before and spent a fortune having it fixed every three weeks. I reckon more emissions would have been created in one year by the maintenance van repeatedly coming round than our old boiler has created in the 13 years we've had it.bring back the 50s.. and bakelite and 78s.

You may not want to hear this but...Until recently I had a five-year old Potterton boiler. It never worked properly. Potterton engineers attended several times and replaced the PCB, and other parts. It still did not work properly. I got two other local gas engineers to look at it, both more than once, both checking with Potterton technical support and following their advice, both changing parts, and both failing to sort out the problem.I didn't want to give up the fight but my wife said life's too short and I was throwing good money after bad, so recently I changed the boiler to a Vaillant. I have not had a problem since. Have we just been unlucky? No. Google Potterton and see how many others report similar problems. Or go onto Watchdog's website and see their reports.

Yes, I've heard this too. We will give it one more go and then It think you may be right David. It's such a nuisance having to turn the damn thing off and on manually. We'll see what changing the air valve does for it and then, we may have to do the same. Thanks for the warning though.

Penny,      I appreciate you probably don't watch your boiler all the time but ...... what is the light status just before the fan restarts and after it starts?

Call myplumber who are in Chiswick. They have been fantastic at nursing my potterton along! 0870 777 3980. Also had a new boiler fitted at our old place a and it was an excellent job. What I liked is that they knew I could not afford a new boiler at the new place and have helped provide fixes to keep me going.
