Elers Rd resurfacing

Cracking job by the council/contractors last week. Not the usual stick-down-loads-of-cones-then-nothing-happens-for-weeks scenario, they really got stuck in from 7 am until knockoff at  ..er...  4 every day. Got the job done well within the promised timeframe and it looks fantastic.  thanks

Ditto for Wellington Road. Well done Ealing council.One observation; is it just me, or has Northfields won the lion's share of the carriageway resurfacing programme (not that I'm complaining)?

Alex,You are correct to point out that Northfield ward is getting more than its fair share of road resurfacing this year.  We are having something like 18 roads resurfaced.  It is a case of swings and roundabouts though.  We had precisely no roads resurfaced last year.  And only a few the year before.  Every year the council does a condition survey of all the roads in the borough and we get a huge long list of every road in the borough and its condition.  We then set the amount we are going to spend and the worst roads get done first.  All parts of the borough are benefiting from the £19 million that the Conservatives have put into road and pavement resurfacing.  In three years the Tories have spent more on roads than Labour did in three four year terms.  For more info see my blog here:http://philtaylor.org.uk/?p=1932

Anybody like to start a book on how long it will take for the first open sore to be inflicted on the lovely new road surface by A.N. Other Contractor?(ps - for some strange reason my dog won't walk on the new surface...)(pps - I reckon it must have put at least another twenty grand on the price of the average house in the road!  :-) )

i'm amazed they haven't dug it up already. Surely we need yet another cable supplier by now. we haven't had a new one for at least 18 months.hurrah re 20 grand!!!

Cllr TaylorHow many of these 18 lucky roads are in your 'Heritage Quarter'? By any chance do you happen to live in this mock 'Heritage Quarter'? Are you expecting a hefty house price increase?

Elers isn't it it. A couple of years ago our streetlamps were replaced by stern, unlovely, towering jobbies that wouldn't look out of place at Auschwitz or overlooking the Berlin wall (and I know, I've been to both). Heritage schmeritage.

Wonderful the new humps in Elers Road are user friendly by car or bicycle. At one Ealing Area Committee I offered to make a template to standardise the profile of Ealing's road humps because I was so fed up crossing say 4 road humps on a laden (shopping) bicycle relatively smoothly and then "hitting" a fifth. Some in Ealing are illegal. They are over 100mm in height. Others are so high I have noticed drivers having to use oxygen to make a safe ascent. No one took up my offer of a free profile so I have to assume that either the transport department picked upmy idea or that these contractors exercised their own judgement and "got it right".

There are already several large holes in the 'lovely new road surface' on Church Lane close to the junction with the South Ealing Road.The new surface can only be a few weeks old!

Colin,I understand that we consult the utility companies before we resurface roads to check if they have any work scheduled.  If they say no they are not supposed to touch the roads for three years unless it is an emergency.  I saw the work in Church Lane - it is a gas leak.  Nice road or gas explosion?
