New fish shop 'Poisson' is open

........in Northfield Avenue...in one of the new shops near the station. Looks really nice but didn't have time to go in and buy anything.

It's a fine balance with gentrification. Personally, I think the southern end of Northfield Avenue could do with a wee bit of it, as its shops do suffer by comparison with those further up.

I went into Poisson today, well it is a nice new shiny shop but quite frankly it’s a bit up itself.  Whilst I do appreciate clothes make the man, just because I am in jeans today and not a suit, it does not mean I may have problems paying.C fresh in West Ealing is far cheaper, more varied and without the snotty attitude.G

I'm disappointed to hear that. I did wonder, when they announced their rather pretentious name, whether they would be a bit snooty. I'm a habitual jeans-wearer myself, so let's see how they treat me when I pop in for a gander at the weekend.

They're being extremely foolish to take that attitude in a recession and with a new venture ! That might go down well in Chiswick but I think we are a bit more based in reality. I shall try it myself and report back.

I shopped there yesterday - The fish was lovely and fresh and the owners welcoming. I will certainly being using Poisson rather than Waitrose for fish in future.

I had a very nice piece of haddock from there yesterday. Extremely fresh and seemed to be pretty competitively priced too.IMO a fish shop is a great addition to Northfield Avenue. The owners live locally and deserve our help and support.

Have you not tried C Fresh fishmongers in West Ealing? Very good value for money, very friendly people and excellent service.It sounds to me as if 'Poisson' is a tad pretentious. I wish them well, but they may want to reconsider their attitude towards customers in casual dress, as per G Lord's earlier comments.

Clearly one needs to dress as a Frenchman before venturing in. What would be best? Plenty of stubble and a copy of Sartre tucked under the arm?
