I'm  dreaming of a white Christmas...

... just like the ones I used to know.Aside from the awful English, while I was humming this yuletide anthem this afternoon (I cannot sing at all) it occurred to me that this may be the first song to identify global warming as it is suggesting earlier Christmases within living memory had snow but none recently.Similarly many Christmas carols suggest the presence of snow around Bethlehem. Was it an exceptional winter 2 000 odd years ago or the norm?

We visited Jeruslam (and Bethlehem) one winter, although not Christmas, must have been in the early 80s. A freak snow storm led to half an inch of snow laying and the whole city ground to a halt: no buses, restaurants and museums closed. And people think we overreact.
