Ealing council money in Icesave

From the news ticker at the bottom of this forum, I gather Ealing is one of those that lost money and (as things stand) may now not get it back.Will this impact on services more, or is that cash already out of the picture (ever since the bank collapsed) and we're currently getting by without it?

Given that the council decided to give everyone a £50 refund, I guess they don't need it.

The money is gone at least until the Icelandic financial system recovers. It came out of cash reserves so those reserves are lower than they could have been. If you are a cynic the £50 cashback was probably partly designed to make people think that the millions lost was no big deal.

Hold on. If they lost money in the Iceland finacial crash, and are giving us all a £50 cashback i have to ask why were we overcharged in the first place?
