Another example of unresponsive Tesco

Jan 2 place order on line with Tesco Direct. Money paid bt Clubcard Plus.Jan 8 Supplier says they will contact us in the next two weeks concerning a delivery date.Jan 9 Tesco says that the fact that I am unlikely to get goods until at least a month after I paid is the way their system is. I decline a refund as I want the goods.

Whilst I am not condoning the actions by Tesco, do you not think that it might be due to the severe weather that has struck the whole of the country that may be making Tesco not able to give you a delivery date. The item you want might not be in one of the local warehouses surrounding London, it could be further away where the conditions are much worse than they are here.

'Due to exceptional demand and the recent adverse weather conditions we are experiencing longer than normal delivery lead-times.' was the reason given after a week.I would contend that suppliers should not be allowed to take your money before a delivery date is agreed.

Sainsburys cancelled my online delivery on the morning of the delivery (tuesday). They rang at 6:30am to tell me.

Most suppliers don't take the money till goods are despatched -- Tesco certainly don't -- but I gathered that Graham was paying with clubcard points, unless I misunderstood.

This was the first time I had endured such poor service from Tesco Direct.

The Tesco Direct website takes payment when you click the check out button. If you are having your grocery's delivered by Tesco they don't take the money until the day of delivery. This is because the goods have to be picked off the shelves of your local store and due to availability and substitutions they won't know how much to actually charge you until then - the price you see on the website is only a 'guide' price.

I'm 100% certain that under distance selling regulations a retailer isn't allowed to debit a card until the date of dispatch.You may well have grounds to chase this up..

Hi Graham,That has always been my understanding, however when I got asked a similar question recently I went through the Distance Selling regs and couldn't find anything that backed it up.I didn't spend a massive amount of time searching them, as reading legalese makes my eyes water, but if you happen to know which area it's contained within I'd be grateful if you could let me know - as it will help me settle an argument :)
