What's happening in Ealing Broadway Centre?

Does anyone know what is going on in the Centre in the row of boarded-up, empty shops between the Orange shop and Beauty Base? It look BIG, but not a clue about what's going to be there (except that we can be fairly sure it's as cheap and tatty as they can make it).

Oh ye of little faith!  I suspect this is where they are going to locate New Look.  There is currently a small New Look in West Ealing that will no doubt close when this one opens. So good news for EB and sad news for West Ealing with yet another empty shop.The previous post was a 'test' as I wrote the above response then there was a server error!

Why on earth would another low cost/low quality shop be good news for Ealing Broadway?  Got nothing against low cost shops but a bit of quality dotted about wouldn't go amiss either.

The issue is for shopkeepers is whether there is a critical mass of quality shoppers. For shopping many of us go elsewhere.

Bernie its good news because it means alot of empty units are being filled!  New Look is a successful retailer that is slightly cheaper than Next and on par with H&M. It brings in fashion talent to design ranges in a similar vein to H&M.I would hardly call it low cost or quality. I agree that it would be beneficial to have a better mix of shops in EB centre but for now this will more than do.

New Look is what most people in the fashion business would call low to middle of the range. They are above Primark, but am not sure I would say they were on par with H&M. Although H&M are below Next and stores of a similar nature.I agree that the centre needs a better mix of shops and not just clothing shops.

agreed perhaps not a great shop but still a shop that adds to the overall picture that may drag in another in time.

Well New Look collaborate with Giles Deacon on a boutique range (usually only available in premier stores) although H&M have had Mathew Williamson, Stella McCartney and many others.I would say as far as design goes H&M are better, but in terms of quality they are on a par.

The problem is that once a shopping centre has started to take the  cheap, downmarket route it's almost impossible to get any quality retailer to take an outlet. If we want to preserve what's still useful and decent quality in the Centre -M&S, Boots, Waterstone's, Tesco- we're all going to have to shop there like mad. More and more cheap clothes shops just aren't going to attract the kind of customer to keep these places there otherwise.

Well it seems as if they want to make Ealing Broadway Centre a priority but seem to be forgetting that there is another shopping area in West Ealing that could have a bit of a boost by having major retailers open up shops.

I think having New Look and Primark in the same centre will atract clothes shoppers. (and New Look do great shoes)

I'm over the moon that New Look is moving into the Broadway Centre into a bigger unit, they are a massive contributor to high street fashion and will definitely attract more shoppers which can only do the centre some good.  I say get rid of Tesco and move another high street fashion shop in, my vote is for Gap or French Connection. I totally agree. . . .great shoes.

I once bought a pair of boots from New Look and nearly got run over twice!  Once crossing Regent Street on a night out (no I wasn't drunk!!) and another in daylight in Watford whilst crossing a very busy road. I vowed after I had put the boots in the bin to NEVER buy New Look shoes again!!!

Do you not think it might have more to do with you not looking before you crossed the road than the boots?A lot of time and money has gone into teaching people how to cross the road safely and all along they never pointed out to us that wearing boots from New Look would cause us to be run over.

Am sure I only ever heard the Green Cross Code man say "Look left, Look Right and then walk straight across. Never heard him mention the dangers of wearing boots from New Look - perhaps I wasn't paying attention.

Hahahha - The boots were plastic and had a plastic sole too - I slipped when crossing the road, most embarrassing! When I say I was nearly run over it was a slight exaggeration, the green man was lit and I looked left, right then left again!
