Potholes and burst tyre

A couple of days ago I ran over a very deep pothole and burst a tyre which had only seen about 3,000 miles of service. I'm wondering if it's possible to claim compensation from the council(not Ealing)in such circumstances, any thoughts?

Many years ago my cycle was damaged by a hole in the road and I successfully claimed against the local council when I provided evidence that it was more than 6 inches deep. Unfortunately current claims about huge amounts of money spent on roads appear to include a very large proportion spent on road humps, not maintenance.

Potholes could easily be prevented, or their incidence considerably lessened, by using by using porous road surfacing, invented in the UK but never adopted, probably because it cost 1p a square metre more.Perhaps the Council could consider this option.
