Does Labour even know the names of their council candidates?

Labour’s glossy leaflet popped through the door of my house in Northfield Avenue yesterday. While being slightly disappointed at how hard it was to actually read it, I was also somewhat surprised to see that one of the candidates’ names was spelt in two different ways. Considering the candidate is Polish and hopes to get some support from Poles in Walpole, I think the Labour Party is achieving the complete opposite effect. How can they expect people to vote for them when they clearly can’t be bothered to check something as important as their own names?

The spelling and grammar throughout the leaflet is quite awful. Reading it made me feel like the character in this comic: http://wondermark.com/434It's the second political leaflet I've received from that office in the past year or so which was so badly written and designed that I thought about getting in touch to ask if they needed someone to help them proof read.

Out of curiosity I've re-read the Walpole Labour leaflet which I think Mr Duley is referring to. Apart from my own surname I can't find anything stylistically wrong or misspelt.

And coming to Krzysztof's amusing comments let me assure him that misspelling my name was a printing error which we spotted after the leaflet was printed. As we do not possess Lord Ashcroft's vast untaxed financial resources and as we have a sense of responsibility towards wasting trees we have gone ahead and dished out the leaflet in any case. I should think that most voters would not care a fig whether my name was spelt "Moszczynski" or "Moszynski". The important thing for them is that I am a Labour candidate and because of its length my name will be the easiest to spot on the ballot paper. As for the 400 odd voters of Polish origin in Walpole ward many will know my name in any case. Good brownie points to Krzysztof for spotting the error. We'll get our printer to hire him next time as a proof reader.

What proportion of Labour's funding does the £18m from Unite represent?

Ed,Are you seriously trying to compare Ashcroft to Unite? Unite is a democratic organization with 2 million members. It is based in Britain, pays taxes and derives historically from unions such as T&G and AUEW which have defended workers' rights, pensions, health and safety at work and decent wage levels from which we have all benefited, even if we are not union members. They have influenced the Labour Party over the last 100 years. True. They have influenced them in bringing in social reform and universal suffrage without which our present living standards and conditions at work would have been unthinkable. How can that contrast with Michael Ashcroft, who lied to a gullible Tory leader that he would be paying taxes in the UK and then avoided paying £2 million taxes on the money he transferred to his UK subsidiary in order to fund the Conservative party and particularly its candidates in marginal constituencies such as Central Ealing and Acton? Angie Bray's glossy leaflets are being subsidized by funds which have been denied to the taxpayer. I know Angie believes she can live with that but I am not sure if the tax-paying electorate feels the same.
