These trees have been decimated by the leaf miner moth as well, making them more susceptible to the canker. You may have noticed the last few years how they've been brown leaved and looking nearly dead as early as late July...The council sent out a letter to all residents in the area in 2008 informing us that they will have to be felled over the coming years because of the disease. However! They also gave us a chance to vote on what they should be replaced with, giving us the option of Oak, Lime, London Plane, or a mixture of the 3. The 500 or so respondents chose the mixture. You'll notice some saplings in the empty space soon.Sad to see these beautiful trees going but at least they'll be replaced.
