Lib Dems - Ealing or Hillingdon?

Could anyone confirm if the Nigel Bakhai standing for the Liberal Democrats in Elthorne ward and for the Ealing Southall Parliamentary seat is the same same Nigel Bakhai who is standing for the Liberal Democrats in the Botwell ward in the London Borough of Hillingdon?

The nominations for the two council seats both show the same address (which is in Elthorne ward), so they are presumably the same person.

If he gains all three seats he's going to be a busy boy isn't he?I suspect it's electoral law that's more of an ass here than someone talking advantage of it.Stiil if you vote for him in Ealing and he gets in in Hillingdon and just does the Hillingdon job - you might feel somewhat let down.

Nigel is a pretty versatile bloke so why not!! anyway the Southall Tories must be getting desperate as they are leafleting people outside of the constituency. So now i have have 2 tories that i could vote for as MP's. I also see that we are getting a lot of good news announced. So Election time here we come with no doubt more interesting items of nonsense

Seems odd for Nigel to stand in Botwell when in 2006 labour came out well on top and the Liberals came very much at the bottom. But perhaps you have to start somewhere, and then work into a ward where the chances are higher.He certainly has a better chance in Elthorne where he is a resident.

The more I think of this the more curious it becomes. To stand in 2 boroughs does suggest a lack of serious commitment to both boroughs (and wards).Surely this is not the act of a serious politician - unless he thinks that he cannot win?

If they have to run the same candidate in two boroughs.I think this says a lot about the Lib Dems nationally.They may be flying high in the polls but they are thin on the ground.

Dear Bob and othersI have given Annemarie my response on this one, but in case anyone missed it. I work in Uxbridge which qualifies me to stand as a candidate in Hillingdon borough. Ealing and Hillingdon are paired together as a London Assembly seat and I am very good friends with my Lib Dem colleagues in Hillingdon so I agreed to stand as a local elections candidate there. My hope is that the media coverage I receive as a General Election candidate in a neighbouring constituency will help increase the Lib Dem vote in Hayes(e.g. I have given interviews on Hayes FM which covers both areas). However, I am completely devoting my time to campaigning in Elthorne ward and Ealing Southall. You cannot be a councillor in two boroughs and I want to make it absolutely clear, in the event that I am elected in Elthorne and Botwell, I would resign in Hillingdon because I live in Elthorne, and have always been passionate about representing the people of West Ealing, Hanwell and Southall where I have worked in the community for the past ten years.RegardsNigel

NigelCould I ask what you plan to do should you be successful in both the MP and ward ballots? Being in the Elthorne ward I notice none of the last councillors are standing for re-election. There are three new seats available, Yoel Gordon is getting one my mine but there are two more of my crosses to win Regards

I am completely committed to being a councillor in Elthorne and my intention is to do both roles. There are lots of examples of good Lib Dem MPs like Bob Russell in Colchester who has been a councillor for all the time he has been an MP. Being a councillor gives you a say in deciding how ward forum budgets are spent but also many of the problems you face as an MP are related to council services such as parking, planning and town centre regeneration.

I would not be surprised.  In policy, the Libdems stand for everything and nothing specific.  Now it seems their candidate is standing everywhere and no-where specific, geographically!  That is a why a vote for Libdems on Thursday will be a vote for Labour or the Tories.  I suggest that you should vote for me, an independent candidate and get and independent MP.  Sam Akaki

SamI wish you well in the Ealing central seat, it would have been nice to have had the choice in Ealing Southall as well.NigelI'm sure Bob Russell must be doing a good job to be elected in both positions but personally I believe that an MP can't be both and should be concentrating on the national issues for Ealing while our councillors work on the local issues
