CHURCHES in EALING: 50-90% of the time NOBODY is in the church buildings = REHEARSAL SPACE FOR SINGING.People from churches say they love people. Will you prove it in the real? PLEASE, will you help me? I am a young man who is looking for a charitable community/person who could help me to find a quiet space in West London where I could intensively rehearse singing at least 12 hours daily to record my DEMO with my own music equipment. If you have any little space (at least 1x2 metres, any cellar, basement, storage, cubby, office, workroom or whatever - please suggest), please, can you help me? I can regularly rehearse at any times it is possible according to our arrangement, (including in the nights if the space is only available in the nights). In return, I could keep your property tidy (I cannot offer any money but I can offer my work, (suggest what work you would like (e.g.: keeping your property tidy, pet-sitting, dog-walking etc.)). If you think you can help me with a space where I could intensively rehearse singing at least 12 hours daily, please, suggest where and when (time and date) we could meet to talk about details in person. 12 hours seems a little excessive to practise and I can't see that many people would want you practising for that length of time at night.You can sound proof a room quite cheaply with polystyrene tiles and practise at reasonable times so not to disturb your neighbours.OR, which seems to be a solution - you can book a studio to practise in as many other musicians, bands do.

I want to have the DEMO done this year to get the agent/strong sponsor/etc. and start a professional career. Without the DEMO, nobody talks to you. No DEMO = NO chance. So, it is NOT too long time for me unlike for somebody who just takes music as a hobby.Also, this is a professional way - to spend many hours daily with rehearsing. So I know, polystyrene tiles is shit.Only concrete solid DENSE blocks/lintels is the best what works. Well the polystyrene tiles used to work wonders when I was at music college studying for my music degree. THe last thing you wanted to hear was a trumpet playing in the next room when you are trying to practise your own instrument.No one can rehearse for 12 hours straight, for starters you would not do your vocal chords any good regardless of how many breaks you took.Many bands / singers have manged to practise here and there and still get signed up. Whilst I admire your enthusiasm to make music your career, I think that your expectations of getting someone to let you rehearse for 12 hours solid is slim. You need to be a bit more realistic - 4 hours you may be able to achieve. As to being allowed to rehearse in a church - for one thing the accoustics would not be suitable for studio work, there would not be enough power points and lastly, have you ever sung in a church? They are generally freezing cold (hardly the right conditions for singing) and most of them are locked during the day to stop vandals.Why not ask your local community centre to see if they will let you rehearse?

As the weather is getting a bit warmer, why not go to the local park, find a corner and start singing your heart out?People would think you are a nutter and give you a wide berth...Or, you could go busking which might get you some cash to pay for soundproofing at home?  Sort of earn while you learn.

F. Stone, I have a great experience about soundproofing. So I know, polystyrene tiles is shit.Of course, I am not going to rehearse singing NON-STOP 12 hours daily. But 12 hours INCLUDING breaks. I used to rehearse about 5 hours daily (including breaks about each hour or each 30 minutes to go to toilet, etc...). So I know, it is possible very easy IF YOU DRINK A LOT. (I drink a hot water.) I already have some experience.Yes, you are right about the problem of accoustics in a church. But I know there ALSO are small rooms, as well. (e.g. a toilet, little storage room, etc. is OK for me.) And I am going to put a carpet or other things on the walls/ceiling or on a framework.My expectations are very small. I am pessimistic. There is a small chance whether I would find a quiet space in West London where I could intensively rehearse singing at least 12 hours daily to record my DEMO with my own music equipment.

G Lord, please, I am talking about a professional rehearsing, which means EVERY DAY, 360 DAYS per year. I am not talking about some temporary mood/hobby for singing. So, please, a park is nonsense. But thanks, anyway for your endeavour to give an advice.

Perhaps if you actually go and ask people at community centres, church halls etc instead of wasting precious singing time posting on this forum you might get an answer. As I said before you may be able to get a room, hall etc for about 4/5 hours a day (after all it would a room, hall that the community would like to use too) but not for 12 unless you are willing to pay for time in a studio. Perhaps you could compromise, as I believe most true musicians do.

F. Stone,I have been trying many things. Including what you said. NOone and nowhere helped me. No church helped me.Yes, 4 hours is nothing for me. Because I want to see the progress very quicky. I want to have my DEMO as soon as possible. I believe if I could rehearse 12 hours daily, I willl have the record of my singing on the professional level in about 5 months.

Yes it would be interesting to see it, if you have an example of you singing. As the poster above has said, many bands appear on Youtube, in fact I believe my brother's band does.

If anyone has looked at the Chiswick forum you will see that our singer friend George has been posting quite a lot there. There has been quite a few constructive comments as well which he has unfortunately ignored or has become abusive.If and I say if he is serious about becoming a singer then he has got to be a bit more flexible in his attitude. Just telling people that if he can sing well doesn't make him a good singer or one that people will want to listen to. I can't see anyone letting him rehearse for 12 hours solid without some remuneration in return - what planet is he on?

George, you have no film, tape or other recording of you performing?  Nothing?  Not even you doing Kareoke in a pub?  Or during a visit to Pauls house?You don't have a friend with one of those phones that can record films?  Or don't have access to anything that could get your tones online?Doesn't matter if its not crystal clear, but you will have to do this first or we'll begin to think you are more of a myth....

GeorgeDon't you understand that you are asking us to take what you say on face value. Are you embarrassed by the recordings you have so far? I can't see what problem you have - if you want to become a singer then you will have to perform in front of an audience. Where's the problem in that? If you can't show us what you have done already, then it seems to me that you will not be able to perform in front of a live audience of hopefully 100's.

What I do understand is that I may be able to help you get your REHERSAL room, which won't be at Pauls house, for you to record your DEMO.Yet you don't seem to want to provide proof you are real.As I said, please post some of your recordings on Myspace/youtube or anywhere, then I can see which of my contacts will be able to help YOU with your DEMO.  Quality of recording is not important at this time.  But the people who can help you need to know you are who you say you are and not Mr Blobby.

Oh dear George, you do seem to be losing the plot a bit don't you?If you have something already, where is the harm in sending the link? If you are as good as you say you are, then something that is a bit rough around the edges won't matter as most people will be able to hear the potential.Actually, you've never said what your musical background is - would you care to share that information? After all you are expecting someone to give you access to their property in return for virtually nothing, unless you would give them a percentage of your future earnings.

You cannot go from being a novice singer, which you have said you are to a professional singer in a few months. It takes time, patience (something that you evidently don't have), tuition, practise (and not for hours upon hours as that is where you endanger your vocal chords) and more importantly an understanding that you may not make the big time.You remind me of one of my first piano puplis, how disappointed they were when they discovered they weren't able to play Grieg's Piano Concerto after the first lesson.Get a grip on reality, George before you go any further or you may be in for a big disappointment.

Personally I think this is a wind up.I have played in semi-pro and pro rock and pop bands for over 20 years and still do. NEVER have I come across anything so ridiculous as a singer wanting a church for 12 hours a day to practice singing in order to record a demo. All you need to do is to sing at speech level to practice vowel articulation. You can practice with your mouth closed and hum. You can go in your bathroom and sing where you will get enough reverb to practice pitch accuracy. Very few singer need to sing loudly, it's a common mistake with amateurs. Your best tone is on your speaking level or just above.If you are singing so loudly as to disturb your neighbours, then you must be either an opera singer or a misinformed rocker. Personally, I don't think you know extremely little about vocal exercise and practice and may not have much experience as a singer. I stand to be corrected on that of course. My gut feeling, however, is that you are taking the rise, my son.
