Go Compare

Does anyone else, besides me find that advert very annoying? Its got to the stage where I turn the sound down on the teleision everytime it is on.

Not the Go Compare ad, I mute the TV when the Boots advert comes on with that annoying song.Neither are as annoying as that advert a few years ago that went "It's gonna be great".Best ad recently has been the one where the little boy announces that he is going to his mates house for a number two.

Oh yes, had forgotten that other annoying song "Here Come the Girls" - that should have been cut in the mixing booth.Is that the little boy who wants to see Paul? Think that is really good.

Don't think I have seen that one (pardon the pun).Still think they should take the Go Compare ad and now the Boots ad off the air - they are very annoying!

"take the Go Compare ad and now the Boots ad off the air"...... and replace with 'Axel the Frog'? God forbid!I find most of the insurance ads annoying at this time, whether fronted by dogs, elephants, sailors, or whatever.

Oh I had forgotten the frog advert - very amusing the first couple of times but very irritating after that. Didn't he appear on Top of the Pops?

Not sure about TOTP but there are entries on Youtube.Didn't the TV adverts eventually have part of his anatomy censored?Aside from party political broadcasts what are, or have been, the most annoying TV adverts for posters?

You can't deny though, that from a purely marketing perspective, the Go Compare ad is fantastically effective. You can just imagine the ad execs' thought process. "Get some Dom Joly lookalike with a silly moustache to sing an intensely irritating operatic ditty. Everybody will be talking about it."    Which is precisely what we are doing.

Good idea.Permit me expand the scope of this thread somewhat. What is everyone's favourite ever TV ad? I'll kick of off with the R Whites Lemonade seventies classic. Altother now: "I'm a secret Lemonade drinker....."

I used to like the dancing potatoes in the Smiths crisps ads (awful crisps but the ads were good)

Alex, pop point to you if you can name the bloke in the stripey pyjamas and his Hounslow raised son, who also sang backing vocals on the track. No Googling!

Nearly correct, his father wrote, sang and starred in the advert.  Young Elvis, then called Declan, did the backing tracks.  I made a slight anorak mistake, Declan was schooled in Hounslow, not raised.  Just mention thast before someone who REALLY knows about such trivia wakes up.One of my fave TV Ads, Carling Black label where it appears to be an advert for Levi jeans set in a laundrette.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCemJAd3KZA&feature=related

The Road Tax advert take on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.Carling Black Label 'sunbeds' advert - see youtube.Hoover 'beats as it sweeps as it cleans' from the 1950s.One could also mention the pre-1988 Robertson's Jam adverts,  but one won't!

A classic ad is a Renault car advert series. At the end of each advert was a chime and the slogan "Renault build a better car".The ads were withdrawn after someone asked, "if they build a better car, why don't they market it?"

Not me, I'm afraid (I was only a wee one at the time).Strangely, though, I CAN remember those Campari ads with Leonard Rossiter and Lorraine Chase - classy!

Well I thnk the Martini ones were in the 70's could have been a bit later though.Of course for sheer cheesiness there is always the Milk Tray adverts - do they still make Milk Tray by any chance?
