I would like to congratulate Steve Pound on an extraordinary personal victory in Ealing North. He actually achieved a swing from Tory to Labour against the national trend. Bravo!

Hopefully Steve and all the other decent Labour MP's can help re-shape Labour to make a meaningfull Party that is very much post Blair. Did people fear the thought of George Osborne trying to save the financial system. Did people not fully trust the Cameron charm. Did the Clegg debate victory cause people to look at the libdems (as tories predicted) in more detail and say no. An interesting time ahead and a Hung Parliament is the best outcome for all. To his credit Cameron has brought the Tory party a long way but given the turmoil during the eighties was it always an impossible task to re-invent it. So as the Tories won locally on the Tram factor and Southall defections, will Labour return to power in Ealing?? I found when looking at the leaflets that some of the Tory one's were written in quite a childish manner. The cheap attacks somehow convinced me that I should Vote Labour after all despite several issues with Bliar and the direction Labour has taken.

Perhaps the slight swing towards Mr Pound was due to constituency reallocation, in part due to the loss of the good burghers of the Ealing Broadway area.
Council results 40 Labour, 25 Tories, 5 Lib Dems (one in Elthorne, one in E Common and 3 in Southfield). All the Gurcharan Singh party swingers have been ousted,

I think Steve Pound is genuinely very popular in the area and people who wouldn't usually vote Labour voted for him. Also myself and many people I know who couldn't bring themselves to vote Labour were really pleased that he stayed our MP even without our votes.

He wins because he knows the patch extremely well and is a harworking constituency MP, and is not wacky. That is just the type who should come high in a selection list. So well done.Now he has no government portfolioo, let us hope that he restrains any loony tendency in the Council to whack up Council tax as happened last time.The country has had its Thatcher moment which is why so many still detest the Tories and partly why they did not win this time - outright. The Country has had its Brown financial mismanagement moment, which is why Labour will always struggle for a long time ahead.Julian Bell had better behave with maturity this time round.

An observation on one of his comments.To whit:"...not only are there about 250 new members bumping into each other and walking into cupboards..."Firstly, could this be the real reason for Mr Cameron reducing the number of MPs so lessening the chances of collision?Secondly, why are cupboard doors left open to trap the unwary? Has this ever happened to the Ealing North MP? Has he ever had the desire to shut the doors with someone inside?Answers please, written lightly in pencil, along the edge of a twenty pound note.
