Disappearance of original road signs

The original road sign at the top of Adelaide Road and the one on Balfour Road/junction Northfield Avenue have both recently disappeared.  I know that there are metal thieves have been operating in the Ealing/Hanwell area and I have a horrible feeling these 'heritage' signs could start to disappear pretty quickly - at least those that are within reach.  The Adelaide Road one was just above head height.  Having said that I could be wrong about them being stolen. I read recently that there was thought of a plan to renovate orginal road signs in the Northfields area. Perhaps this is now taking place...?

I think some of the people behind the Heritage Quarter concept have been working on streetsigns and that it is part of the restoration of street furniture folio.

Good news Jerry - this info just in from your local councillor Ann Chapman:''I am pleased to say that these signs are not being stolen but as the poster mentions, we in Walpole ward have a project to restore a number of the "Heritage" signs in our ward.  This was discussed at our ward forums and residents supported an allocation of a small amount of our capital spend for the project in each of the past two years.  Unfortunately, this project took a long time to get going but the first batch of signs were removed for restoration some time ago now.  I will be following up why they have not yet been returned and then chasing up the second batch.There are also signs in streets in Northfields ward and our colleagues there have also allocated some funds for their signs and are in the process of trying to identify where they are and which will be done.''Cllr Chapman also asks that people be aware of the ward forum meetings where they can find out more about their area - the next Walpole ward meeting is likely to be in July

Good news indeed and many thanks to the Ed and Anne Chapman for following this up.Even better, I can report today that the Adelaide Road sign has reappeared, beautifully restored (it was rusty and virtually unreadable) and painted!
