Northfield Avenue

People seem to think that there is no speed limit on Northfield between the Forester Pub and Uxbridge Road (along the alotment)Why isn't there speed cameras or at least speed bumps along here?  With bus stops on either side of the road it's very dangerous when some chav goes along there at 60mph.  I have a 3 legged cat to prove it!Has anyone ever asked the local MP about this by chance?

I've always thought it was a 30mph limit down there and have driven accordingly.

The siting of speed cameras on Northfield Avenue is barmy. The two current ones (one 50m south of the tube, the other opposite Tesco Express) are located in places where you could barely get past 30 mph even if you tried. And yet the northern stretch remains untouched. People - including myself occasionally, I must admit - do drive over 30 mph down the northern stretch. It's long and  straight, and thus invites the driver to speed up. But the key point is that it is narrow, which greatly increases the risk of an accident. Therefore, I for one would not complain if some kind of traffic calming measures were to be introduced.

Surely the new speed humps where there used to be just pedestrian crossings will slow people down. They certainly did me today!

They're not speed humps Susan, they're ex-customers of a certain deli/resturant along Northfields Avenue!(Only kidding)

Apparently speed cameras can only be introduced where there is a proven need to do so e.g. accident hot spots.

There was someone killed along that stretch last year.I tried to cross there late morning yesterday to get to the allotments with my son (in the buggy) and made a mad dash for it! luckily traffic was light, otherwise I would have been forced to walk all the way up the pedestrian crossing and back down again.  With the bus stops you would think that would be an ideal spot for some sort of crossing as well as speed cameras.

Wouldn't that have been the safer thing to do especially as you were with your son? Isn't there a Zebra Crossing just past the allottments you can use as well near Apple?

Actually, isn't there a Pelican crossing right by the allottments? You could have used that, right by the junction of Mattock Lane and Northfield Avenue.

Not the entrance we were using no....I was with some people that have allotments there to forage elderfowers.  If it had been any busier I wouldn't have dreamt of crossing where I did.  The one at Apple is too far away, there really should be one near the bus stops.

I drove down there today, and there are now two sets of road humps on the stretch past the allotments.  I'm not a great lover of humps, but these seem to be well justified.
