To add to Peter's post on the global impacts and deforestation it is also worth noting an example of a case from Germany.The planning permission for a palm oil CHP plant in St Ingbert in Saarland, which had been granted in May 2006, was revoked because the noise and smell would be unacceptable for the residents.This was a the decision reached by the fifth chamber of theadministrative court in Saarland, which revoked the planning permission for the palm oil power station in St Ingbert. The court agreed with residents who had started legal proceedings against the planning permission. Since the plant was opened in December 2006, they had suffered undue nuisance through noise and smell, since the palm oil CHP plant was built in the middle of the housing estate Rohrbach.It is also worth noting that many of these plants in Germany were built with the intention of using Rapseed oil (like the plan for Southall) but ended up importing Palm oil as it became uneconomic to do otherwise. We had not case iron guarantees from Blue NG that this would not happen. Surprisingly, the Inspector decided not to permit evidence concerning thre global impacvts of this plant at all. Nevertheless, Ealing won on local issues alone.
