speed  limit northfields av

from mattock lane to leighton road is 20 mph now and no overtaking

That must have just happened as I don't think I noticed any signs when I was out at the weekend. I was on the bus and not driving so perhaps that is why. let's hope this helps with safety.

Let's hope that there will be enforcement; but I suspect it will be the same as enforcing the 'no entry' into Mattock Lane from Culmington Road.

Is the limit in Northfield Avenue itself, Hugh? I thought only residential roads would be subject to these random 20mph limits, not main through routes, which NA obviously is.

I've just looked at the map - Mattock Lane is on one side of Northfields Avenue and Leighton Road is on the other side further up. It looks as if the 20mph goes the length of the allottments from the corner of Mattock Lane and Northfields Avenue to Leighton Road.

Hugh, You may have seen the 20 mph sign at the Forester`s triangle which is for the Leighton & Seaford Roads area. Easily done while concentrating on the newly raised pedestrian crossing.

Drove along there tonight. A sign for the humps but no speed sign. A 20mph sign for a side road - Leighton Rd I think, the way it is placed is a bit misleading.

"with humps it is now illegal to overtake?"No, just unwise.  I think you need to read the Highway Code again, as you have some rather odd ideas about the meaning of traffic signs and road markings.The presence of humps does not imply any change in the speed limit or overtaking rules or any other rules.Possibly you are thinking about a rule for councils that says that if they impose a 20 mph limit, they have to make it self-enforcing by installing traffic-calming measures, which may include humps.
