Getting rid of traffic lights

A story on the front page says that five sets of traffic lights are being earmarked for removal in the borough, two in Popes Lane alone. The lights at the junction with Elderberry Rd are recent and serve no real purpose; but the ones at the Lionel Rd junction have been there for as long as I've lived in the area (20+ years); traffic comes from the M4 and A4 up there and I think the lights need to stay.

They removed the lights on Gunnersbury Lane/Bollo Lane by Acton Town Tube about 6 mths ago and replaced them with a mini roundabout. This is how it used to be 10yrs ago. Since then traffic has speeded up and to knowledge there have been no accidents either with cars or pedestrians. So many this is the way forward.

David, I agree that the mini roundabout at Acton Town tube is a huge improvement. Maybe that's what they have in mind for Popes Lane/Lionel Road, in which case it should be okay, but I fear that it'll be left as a free-for-all and, on a bit of a blind corner, cause havoc.

I know Boris want to speed up traffic. Im surprised he hasnt done what they do in most countries - allow cars to turn left (abroad its turn right) at a red light if there is no oncoming traffic. Seems to work ok there.
