Piano Tuner

A friend has need of a good piano tuner , reliable , reasonable in charges and within the West London area, one who comes with personal recommendation based on several visits. Any suggestions please, anyone. Thank you.

Have just looked on the web and there is a museum in Brentford that caters specifically for musical instruments, namely pianos and pianolas etc - perhaps they might be able to help you and suggest a competent tuner.If your piano hasn't been tuned for a while it will take some time to regain concert pitch (if it isn't too old) and then might need retuning in a few months time.

Re  then might need retuning in a few months time.            xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx        thanks for both your replies, very good of you to make the effort.I understand from my friend that she has hitherto  used a tuner who had to travel some distance, charged accordingly but who was not particularly effective, so that's why she is on the lookout for another tuner and a more local one at that. Will pass your suggestions on to her.

Not a problem, any time. When I was gorwing up studying piano we had an old piano, at least a good 70 years old and it needed tuning at least every 4 months or so. Also depends on whether it is moved as well - if it has moved recently best wait a couple of months for it to settle before anyone tunes it.

We've used the guy at Plaza Piano's in Hanwell a few times. He's good but hard to get hold of.

Try to do a search for Pianoland. Boris has been tuning our piano for years and lives locally. He is efficient, friendly and reliable.I don't know if he is still on 020 8997 5315 as he regularly calls us every six months or so.

Call Terry at Jaques Samuel Pianos in the Edgeware Road - they have lots of tuners and are very particular...will warn you if one is going off the boil too.They do our two pianos and my husband's 41 work ones.

Maybe, but 41 is a lot of piano's so it would be a big shop.That grotty museum in Brentford doesn't have 41 pianos on display does it?

I have no idea - I only saw it advertised on the web - have never been so wouldn't know. First time I'd ever heard of it as well.

He's director of Music at the Yehudi Menuhin school; two concert grands, at least half a dozen other grands plus an upright in every practice room and every bedroom. 41 may be an underestimate!

Told you it wasn't a shop.Perhaps not a good idea to mention the school by name, but yes, he should know a thing or 41 about piano tuners.With that many people learning piano in one place, I am kind of glad I don't live next door.I found a digital setup to be a lot more practical, allowing me to practise at odd hours without disturbing others and of course, no piano tuner required.

lots of grass all around...unfortunately near neighbours includes the M25 - any music making noise is a welcome relief.He is a compoaser and conductor but plays piano and vioola though he doesn't perform on them.

So you do have a quiet SPACE where someone intensively REHEARSE singing at least 12 hours daily to record a DEMO?;-)

I didn't realise the Yehudi School was near here. Am only a hunble oboist with piano as second study.No wonder you kept quiet when our friend George was around in May - mind you he did keep us all amused in May.

It's in the depths of Surrey - and definitely not available for stray odd-bods to rehearse in. Though there is a concert hall often hired out for recordings - all the Associated Board stuff for instance is done there. And it is QUIET because of the sound-proofing, but not FREE nor available for TWELVE HOURS A DAY.
