Sky Ride

It's no use saying we don't understand Skyride. It's a great idea but no-one seems to have thought it through or properly consulted the residents affected. Simply a "fait-accompli." You cant shove all these cars on the other roads. We may just have other things we have to do on this particular day and we need to be mobile: to tell us we can't is not on ( is it a violation of human rights???). Here in the Lawns no-one has been in touch yet it would seem we are trapped and we can't be the only ones who feel violated. Do the organisers intend to use Barbed Wire and armed patrols (oops..am I over-reacting?) Whatever this, through bad PR, has given a good cause a frightful image.

If you read Graham Weeks's letter to the mayor and his reply it might answer some of your questions. As has been discussed on the other thread quite a few people have said that not enough notice or consultation was given.

I noticed from the map delivered to me (we are on the route) that the Lawns area of Hanwell appeared to be marooned. Have you been in touch with the Council to ask them about an exit point?  They have given notice to roads ie cul de sacs that are affected not including yours so I imagine they don't realise there's a problem. I managed to get through this morning to tell them the signs meant for Cowper Road had accidentally been put up on Drayton Bridge Road (road closure and no parking) but I did have to be quite persistant to get to speak to someone who could help.

I just spoke to someone from the council who tells me the barriers will be raised so there will be access to the Uxbridge Rd from the Lawns.

it is totally wrong to interfere with peoples lives like this, no one should have the right to to inconvienience people trying to go about ther buisness. To anyone who supports this ride I have one question, would you pay £400+  to join the skyride? NO?  Well why do you think its alright for a trader to lose that much, because of excessive road closeures?

I totally agree with you, this has not been advertised enough so that people from the surrounding areas know about it, so that they could shop in Ealing the day before. It has also more than inconvenienced residents living on the roads to be closed. I wonder if the organisers actually went round the route or if they just picked it from the map. Obviously they can't live in the area themselves or they would not make comments such as you can park in the surrounding roads!!! Already packed with cars or are for residents only!!

Hi MaryI support the ride and happy to answer, No I won't pay a price of 400+ to take part but why would I when its free to cycle all the route of the ride anyhow. I also don't think its right for a trader to lose that amount either but if you look at the brentford (I think) site from the ride last year. Trade went up due to the extra people in the area that were not just driving through so this could be a very good thing for all envolved

Brentford is a totally different area, the type of shops are totally different and so are the roads. I don't in principle disagree with the ride I am just appalled with the lack of consultation with the residents, the lack of knowledge of where we can park from Ealing council and the lack of knowledge of the times we can park, is it from 9 tonight that we have to move, or 9 tomorrow morning? Most importantly the short amount of time we were given to make arrangements. Questors has an opening night tonight, but can people park in Mattock lane? The road will be shut off one end and not the no entry end.Will they be towed away when they come out of the show? There are auditions tomorrow, and a show and also Opera in the park. If we had known in advance alternative arrangements could have been made.When there are other big events in London people know in advance.

its from 9am Sunday morning.Re Mattock Lane - they may waive the No Entry end so people can have access to their houses etc - I just don't know, as you sy consultation has been a bit sparse.
