Electoral Register Opt Out

I have always opted out from the 'edited' list when I filled in the electoral registration form (i.e. the list they sell to junk mailers).Last year I re-registered online for electoral registration and my details came up with Opt-out selected.This year, today, I started to re-register online and was alarmed to see Opt-out was set to 'No'.So either my preference last year was ignored, or the Council are changing everyone to Opted-IN by default, despite previous preference.I have already heard from 2 other residents who have found exactly the same thing when they started to register online.So I have sent in a resource-wasting paper form with a nice clear tick in the Opt-out box.Also noted that online registration demands a phone number and email address whereas it's optional on the paper form.[sigh]

I've just searched* for a Mark Vale in the Ealing area, and none came up on either the 2010 or earlier registers.  So it looks as if your preference was honoured last year.* using http://www.lookuppeople.co.uk/

Great news! And interesting site. I found some of my neighbours, but not myself.So that means they have dropped the opt-out from last year and changed people to opt-in if they register online.Have now spoken to 5 Ealing residents who opted out last year and found they were opted in this year on the online registration. So not just the odd glitch.
