Vets.

Can anyone recommend a fair vet-or is there such a thing ?? My little Westie is 16 yrs old with a few problems.I took him to a vet in Uxbridge...10 minute assesment..194 pounds...follow up appointment..2 small x-rays,small amount of drops,some basic tests, a few antibiotic tablets...(when I got home,one of the medications had someone elses name on) and incontinence medicine for incontinence intended for bitches...Mack is a dog...total cost  900 pounds and my dog is no better than before my visits.Animal medications are a fraction of the cost on line...wait for the catch...if it is a prescrition item,it needs a vet's signature..for which the vet charges 11 pounds per item.It makes going to the vet out of reach.I don't mind paying if the charges are fair and helps my dog.It all seems based on emotional blackmail !!!

Suggest Youngs vets on the Mall next to Ealing Common. Not sure about dog prices; good for guinea pigs.

I've just had to take my fourteen year old jack russell to the vets for a broken leg, and we went to Youngs.  I cant recommend them highly enough

Youngs did all my cats and treated them like their own.  I have never taken out insurance but I wonder if its not a good thing to do.  My last cat lived for 19 years and in his old age needed a lot of treatment.  I cant work out if paying nothing for 17 years and then loads in two years is cost effective, it probably is.

Yes, do try Young's -- we use the Ealing Common office, but there are several around.  We lost one of our beloved cats to cancer last year after a three-year battle, and I cannot praise this practice enough for their compassionate care and attention.  Quality veterinary care is not cheap, but I never paid anything like what you are describing and was always confident that William got the best.

Thankyou Barbara...yes I am making an appointment with Mr. Young.Regarding insurance, my westie is 16 yrs and at that age insurance conmpanies wont take him on.Like all insurance,it's a gamble and you may never need it and after a certain age,the premium skyrockets....can't win !!Again thanks for ypur advice....

Ive never had a dog but was thinking I might try one as I may be having lots of open space soon.  What are Westie's like.  I dont want an over affectionate dog and I'd like one that's happy to go for long walks whatever the weather.

Hello Barbara,Westies are really nice dogs with no particular health problems.They aren't too big and are very independant and love lots of activity especially walks.They look so handsome when they are groomed,although it's not necessary to take them to professonal groomers unsless it's for show.We have had Mack for 16 years and love him to bits....good luck..

Hi Everyone..thanks very much your advice.I took my dog to Mr.Young,Ealing.The parking is a pain,but it was well worth the effort.After over 1000 pounds between 2 previous vets,Mr.Young was the only one who finally diagnosed my dog's problem....so again thanks for the tip..
