Runour has it that this is being converted into a restaurant. Only noticed the scaffolding the other day and renovation work appears to be going on inside. Anyone shed any light?

Yes it is going to be named the Star and Anchor and it will be a gastro pub. They are spending £300k on the re-fit!!!! We at WEN have been invited to one of their pre-opening nights early March so I'll let you know if it is £300k well spent....

They should have turned it into a fried chicken shop, there aren't any for at least 200m on that side of the road.

Can't remember but Baroque has had a chequered history. Closed then re-opened as Baroque, then closed again and re-opened as Baroque. Hence why they are keen to get rid of the name Baroque!!

It was next to Daniels and called The Anchor. What is now The Castlebar used to be The Coach and Horses and was opposite what used to be The Prince Arthur. There was plenty of choice for drinkers in those days but they were all a bit smoky though.

Thanks for clearing that up. The reason I asked is that I was fairly sure I saw an anchor on the front of the building, at the top.
