northfield avenue lampposts.What is new attachment ?

I have noticed all the lampposts in Northfield Avenue have a small gadget fixed near the top. They look like cameras. Is the whole of Northfields avenue now under CTV survelance or are they there for some other reason

Are these blue sockets that the Christmas lights may be plugged into? The Christmas lights in Northfield Ave are checked fixed and switched on every year. This I understand is a (revenue) item paid from Ward Forum (capital) money. I have had this explained in "minute detail" by one councillor but I still don't get it.

These power points will I'm sure be used for christmas lights but yes their other use is as suggested CCTV. These sockets are used for semi permanant surveillance cameras and their transmitters,where a power point is already in place these can go up over night and remain for any length of time. So keep looking up as you might be surprised to find just how often you are actually being watched.

Those attachments were used (not could be used!) for the Christmas lights along Northfields Ave.  The lights have been funded by the Ward Forums at the initiative of Conservative Councillors for Northfields and Walpole Wards.Councillor David Millican, Conservative representing Northfields Ward

I thought they were simply light sensors so the lights go on and off at the right times.

They are IP rated sockets for Christmas lights. IP rating is for water and weather resistance.

I think that if the councillor was to take the time to read what has been written he will find that I stated that "I'm sure these power points will be used for christmas lights" not as he writes"could be used".He goes on to say that the lights have been funded by the Ward Forums etc is he suggesting that these power points were also funded by the same and if so what say if any does the ward forum have in any alterntive uses for these power points? As for Michaels input on the sockets being IP[INGRESS PROTECTION] rated,this is simply a classification system to show the effectiveness of the seal or houseing of electrical equipment from the ingression of foreign bodies ie water,dust,body parts etc so this does not restrict the use of these sockets purely to christmas lights they may well and most likely will be used for CCTV.

The CCTV units that transmit images are quite visible and yes can be connected via the supply  but they are very often battery powered independednt of a supply (so they could even be fitted on trees.There are several deployed in Brentford to keep an eye on the nasty element that blights the district. I don't think too many there have a problem as it makes the place safer.However it it gets used and abused as a cash cow then that's a different matter.

Do these cameras make a place safer or just give the perception of being safer and are mearly used to record a crime which they have obviously failed to prevent,so if you see these cameras while out does that make a person feel safe or just wonder how bad the crime rate is in that area as these devices appear to be necessary.
