Big fire near the Iron Bridge at 6pm? and major traffic jams.

Leaving Waitrose, West Ealing and travelling along Felix Road at about 6pm tonight, one could see the major plume of black smoke in the near distance and I guessed that something was ablaze in Hanwell!Westbound traffic, including those jumbo buses, were being redirected from the Uxbridge Road down Boston Road and then, for some reason, there was no barrier to going up Lower Boston Road to the Uxbridge Road again! So it wasn't Hanwell it seemed..but further away.Thereafter it was chaotic. There was no indication that the Uxbridge Road (westbound) was closed from the Ealing Hospital onwards...and all westbound traffic was made to do a U Turn back to Hanwell!!LBC Radio reported that the blaze was somewhere near the Iron Bridge/ Park. So that was the caused of the traffic hold ups... let's hope there were no serious casualties.Anyone have further information?

Thought that there was a lot of fire engine activity along Boston Road, but couldn't actually see anything.

Apparently it was the carwsh by the Iron Bridge that 'went up'.

Thanks Nigel.Following your tip-off about the Car Wash, I've been able to find this report on the Ealing Gazette webpage.""No lives lost during major fire in Southall"" Aug 2 2011 By James Gates THIRTY firefighters were needed to tackle a blaze in Southall yesterday evening.Six fire engines were deployed after a pair of Portacabins and a stack of tyres were burning at premises, believed to be a carwash, on Uxbridge Road at about 6.10pm.A spokesman for London Fire Service said the flames were brought under control at around 8pm. No-one was reported injured.Ealing Police said the road was closed before being re-opened a few hours later.
