I think the vote timing was wrong but I applaud his priciples, which effectively end his aspirations.I hate the whip system. One would hope that MP's could think for themselves, apparently not and for that fool Milliband to seize more, instantly forgetable, 'sound bites' is simply pathetic. When will we see a Labour oopisition worthy of the name?

Harry Greenway voted against Maggie's 3 line whip on Sunday trading and I applauded him for that. Steve Pound has not AFAIK ever rebelled, something that surprises me as he is a populist man of the people. But he has risen from the party ranks to a lofty height and consolidated his constituency majority. He is though a definite Europhile favouring the euro still AFAIK, the one Pound not in favour of sterling.

It would be interesting to see what would happen with a free vote. I do think though that the timing was wrong for this vote. Lete the southern European collapse happen and then vote when we get drawn in to wasting more money on siestas, corrupt Italian politcians and Greek governments too weak to actually collect taxes from the people.

the fact that he is a damned good constituency MP.I say that as a life-long Conservative voter.Although he and I will never see eye-to-eye on our politics, Steve is, by most accounts, effective in his constituency, which is, after all, what most of us want from our MP. God knows, we poor souls in the eastern part of Ealing Southall could do with a 'Steve Pound'. Roll on the Boundary Commission changes.

Totally agree with Nigel and Graham. I voted for Steve  in the last election, the first time I have voted for a labour man in 50 years. A fine example of how a true contstituency MP should act.

Stephen Pound may well be an amiable fellow and a good constituency MP.  But he is a Labour MP who supported most of the disasterous policies of the Blair-Brown Labour Governments. He must be replaced by a Conservative MP at the next General Election so we can have a majority Conservative Government.

Don't let blind adherence to a party colour your judgment.There are easier targets than Steve Pound who, even after the boundary changes will hardly be in, by any measure, a marginal seat. Plenty of other Blairite/ Brown 'disasters' worthy of unseating, plus a good few Lib-Dem 'bleeding heart apologists' as well.

Fortunately, I am not in Stephen's constituency. I have the misfortune to be in Ealing Southall where, as anyone who lives here will know, the 'effectiveness' of the MP stops eastbound at the Iron Bridge. If the 'turkeys vote for Christmas' I shall be in the new 'Ealing' constituency with a Conservative representative.I have always failed to understand why, given the number of small businesses in Southall and the entrepreneurial spirit of so many Southall reseidents, they continually return Labour MP's, a party that did little. if anything, apart from introduce red tape for the small business and mismanage the economy so badly that SMEs still find it difficult to get business loans.

Tories were perceived to be the party of empire, racism and class. Nowadays they are in bed with the liberals and hard to distinguish from blairite Nulabor.
