Shopped out !!

Does Greenford really need yet another tacky "supermarket" with the associated outside display shelving and which stays open all hours of the night. These ugly shops are sprouting up everywhere adding to the already motley collection of tat in the Broadway. The latest eyesore is the newly opened offering on the corner on the old Lloyds bank site. What makes this one even more gaudy is the garishly lit shop sign in a totally alien language...driving through the area  is like passing through a third world shanty town.  Whatever happened to this once pleasnt town of ours with decent shops and good  traditional  merchandise.Also what's with all these greengrocery stalls...ugly...ugly...ugly....

Mr.Stone, my whereabouts is of no concern to you. In case you don't know,we do have the Internet in the USA as well as contacts in the UK.so you would do better to keep to the topic in hand instead of shadowing me. Maybe you néed to make better use of you time....

They are generally interested in subjects like "how things were" or " how things are"  and show a genuine attachment and concern about their West London past.So encore Overseas posters.

One of the main reasons why High Streets, regardless of where they are in the state that they are in, is due to the fact that large shopping centres have been built (Lakeside, Westfield, Bluewater etc). These large centres mean that the emphasis of shopping local si transposed to other areas where parking in greater numbers can be offered at a little to no costs and everything can be done "under one roof".Increase in rents is also a big factor in the declining High Street.

Fair comments but the present retailers are mostly foreign owned,there are too many selling the same merchandise, and the whole area has been reduced to untidy scruffy tacky thoroughfares ......shame!!

And if there is no problem, why mention it?From my memory, Greenford has been like that for the last 25 years at least

That is a very fair point, nowadays local shopkeepers work over 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and still shops are closing.
