New Fish 'n Chip place in Ealing

Anyone tried the new(ish) chippie opp the Town Hall? Ealing could do with a good fish 'n chip eatery. What's this one like please?

I've been 3 or 4 times. I have found that it's not consistant, which is disappointing, as it's expensive.The fish (haddock in my case) is usually good, though size varies. For me the chips are not crisp enough, though the portion is huge. I had calamari one day & they were great and, thank goodness, included the tentacles.On the couple of occasions I ate in, I wasn't crazy about the young female staff, who gave the impression of only working there while waiting to go to uni or something. All a bit too middle class for a chippie!

Decent enough fish but disappointing chips.  If it's not as good as my chippy (which it's not even close to) then there's no point in going.

Agreed with people comments on good fish but chips to me were a bit soggy.Two pence worth, favorite place has to be Golden Chip in Hanwell

He does seem to keep such irregular hours these days though.When the kids were little (okay, I know I am talking 15+ years ago now) we used to go there almost once a week and it was good.I have been less impressed since management was transferred.

He does try to avoid pub 'chucking out' time and is normally closed by 9:45-10:00pm.Now 'mum' is back on the fryers, all is good again :-)

If you're asking me then my chippy is The Codfather in Oldfield Circus.  Bit out of W5 I know.  I went to the Golden Chip when I lived in Hanwell and they're on a par.

I like Kerbisher & Malt.If you are looking for a traditional fish and chip shop then you probably shouldn't go here as this is more of a modern take on the humble chip shop and everything is a lot more 'fresh' and 'clean' if you like.They do seem to pride themselves on their chips but on the three times I have been they have been inconsistent.  Twice they were a little over cooked and then the third time they were perfect.  Give this place a chance if you a fancying a nice bit of well cooked fish one night.As for good ol' traditional chips I go for Blue Ocean on Pitshanger Lane every time.  Battered sausage perfection ;o)

I agree with Daniele's post. If you're after traditional fish and chips, there are other (cheaper) places like Andy's on Northfield Avenue.Kerbisher & Malt is a more pleasant restaurant experience however, and on the occasions I've eaten there the food has been very good. Yes, it's more expensive than some others, but it's a decent addition to the Broadway so hopefully it will get the local support it deserves.

Why would he do that?Surely that is an excellent time to pick up some business?Anyway, I was referring to earlier in the day - when all the other chip shops are open but he seems to frequently not be.

Interesting.I blundered across Oldfield Circus for the first time ever a few weeks back and I bought lunch at the Codfather.I don;t recall being very impressed I'm afraid.

Hey ho!Never been for lunch but the gaffer works most evenings and runs the orders. Fish is cooked to order and the chips are always crispy (twice cooked). I probably go once a fortnight and have had maybe one off night. Their skin can be a bit soggy but they'll cook skinless if requested. But I'll admit their mushy peas are bloody awful.

Golden Chipo in Hanwell is terrific however last time I bought from there it was very expensive.  Skate & chips cost just short of £10 however the skate wing was huge - far too big for one person and could/should have been cut in half and priced accordingly.

I'm probably biased because I live just round the corner from them, but West Kebab, opposite Northfields tube, do pretty darn good fish at scarily reasonable prices. A large cod and chips comes to just over a fiver. They always cook the fish to order, too.The funny thing is, their kebabs are only so-so. In my experience, the Turks who run chippies are often better at doing British grub than their own cuisine. I guess the award-winning Codfather, which I believe is another Turkish outfit, is another example.
