April smile

A man suffered a heart attack while shopping in a store.The store manager called 911 when they saw him collapse to the floor.  The paramedics rushed the man to the nearest hospital where he had emergency open heart bypass surgery.He awakened from the surgery to find himself in the care of nuns at the Catholic Hospital. A nun was seated next to his bed holding a clipboard loaded with several forms, and a pen. She asked him how he was going to pay for his treatment."Do you have health insurance?" she asked.He replied in a weak raspy voice, "No health insurance."The nun asked, "Do you have money in the bank?"He replied, "No money in the bank.”Do you have a relative who could help you with the payments?" asked the irritated nun.He  said, "I only have a spinster sister, and she is a nun."The nun became agitated and announced, "Nuns are not spinsters! Nuns are married to God." The patient replied, "Perfect. Send the bill to my brother-in-law."

Walpole park kiosk

I have been advised today that both the cafe and my kiosk in walpole park have been given to a company by the name of the social pantry. Supposedly a small family run business.. check that one out!According to Clare Gough they provide delicious Meals at reasonable prices for the privileged few. Apparently PMGT were attracted by their strong social ethos on your behalf. What about the social ethos for what really is a small locally run business that you are about to eliminate. Check their prices and shame on both PMGT and Ealing council.

Gunnersbury Park Cinema

When I went passed the new development at the south end of Gunnersbury Park yesterday (the one that is a conversion of an office building into flats) I noticed that they were saying that it would have a cinema. Is there any chance at all this would be open to the public?

Re CPZ

has anyone on the council any idea when the work for the CPZ on Trees Est. is going to be up and running because at the moment all work seems to have stop and the CPZ is not in operation and no word from the council about the new start date is, and I like many others I would think were made to ruse to get our permits by the 26/04/2018 it just seems to be another council cock up

Ealing Cinema Delayed Again

Ealing residents can at least hold out some hope they might get a cinema. The one in Acton isn't ever going to be built like so many cinema projects across London that were promised and never materialised.It is hard to avoid the conclusion that developers include cinemas in proposals to encourage support for a scheme but when faced with the low yield they get on the asset start to have second thoughts. Julian Bell may say he has assurances that the cinema will actually be built but with sales of new flats grinding to a halt and conditions for high street retailers as tough as they have ever been the cash flow for this project looks very shaky.

I see. And where, pray, are the increase in GPs, dentists, hospital facilities, public transport, etc going to come from to meet the proposed population increase.

Is this really the full story of the strike on the District line?

My jaw dropped when I read the reasons for the strike today on the District line in the newsletter. It claims that a member of staff was transferred at the Acton Depot was transferred from being a driver to a station role after being involved in a number of safety incidents including passing a red signal. The employee in question agreed to the reassignment.Yet now the union have called a strike. This is so outrageous I have to question whether this is the full story. It is bordering on criminal if the union are effectively trying to force management to keep on using a driver who is a danger to passengers and doesn't want to carry on anyway. If there isn't more to this story than has been reported then ASLEF and the staff at Acton Depot who voted for a strike are a disgrace.

labour councillors are about to lose the initiative in the May elections

The Conservative candidates have hit the right spot to gain my attention by highlighting the (1) Filthy Roads that are so obviously  in need of better cleaning . (2) Congestion of road needing better signs.  (3) The disgracefully maintained, even the narrowest of road pavements. (4) Uneven and Unlevelled pot hole repairs. (5) Road markings into Cul de sacs not replaced thus hampering exit and incoming car traffic into the road.Elderly people like myself find this sort of neglect unforgivable. Meetings late in the evening are difficult and do not come to any notice of the officials who are supposed to care. All i can hope for is someone to come along and see for themselves the places i have been writing about.Did you ever Take a walk through Pisssss alley?

Catherine's Marathon Journey

Huge congratulations to Cath for completing the Paris Marathon last Sunday after a tumultuous year. She has shown true grit in battling her cancer diagnosis and now in preparing for and "Jeffing" the 26.2 mile course. She is an inspiration and should be very proud of herself and John and I are pleased to be able to help her raise funds for Breast Cancer Haven. Please watch out for various fundraising events including the raffle and a quiz night!

drilling at midnight on St Mary's Road

There's been a lot of work outside the Red Lion pub, with a generator on all night. But last night a new team set up barriers and starting drilling into the pavement at midnight, continuing until the early hours. It is Scottish Power/Electricity. Are they allowed to do heavy noisy work in the night? Who can I contact to find out?

Christi Graham - Memories?

Christi Graham lost her fight with cancer last year and passed away on March 29th 2017 - she was 65. We lived in Ealing until 1988 with our two children Rachel and Laura, first in North Common Road from 1975 to 1983 and then in West Ealing just off Northfields Avenue. What a wonderful crazy time that was! I know she had lots of friends in Ealing and sometimes hung out at Butlers cafe so I would love to hear from anyone who knew her in those days – she was involved for a while with the playgroup on North Common Road and she also worked as a freelance model and then became a photographer. There are very few pictures of Christi from our Ealing days so any photos of her would be especially welcome. Boston Manor Road - Highway "improvments"

Okay, so I know strictly speaking it's Hounslow but......These works have taken the farcical to new extremesSeriously? Narrowing the road to cause dangerous almost blind bends? What masses are expected to pound down 30 foot wide pavements? Do away with even more parking? Much tighter CPZ restrictions no doubt on the way? Guesses please for the number of cyclists you see per day using the "rolls royce" of cycle lanes per day?!?!?!I foresee collisions with buses and some ****'s at the Council and relevant agencies still trying to justify this "End of Financial Year Extremely Neccessary Roadwork Scheme"

ENERGY BOOST on Monday

Energy Therapists will be at the London Buddhist Vihara, The Avenue, W4 1UD on Monday, 13th March, between 11am and 1pm (last session 12.45).  The session takes about 15-20 minutes and I am sure that you will feel really good at the end of that time, with lots of vital energy to enable you to enjoy the rest of your week!  A number of therapists come in each month and give their services free.  The Vihara kindly allow us to use the hall at no charge so a donation is most welcome as this enables us to give all donations to the Vihara.These sessions are not related to any religion, everyone is welcome.

Gold Ring Scam

I'd originally intended to post on here to theeffect "If anyone has lost a gold ring comingout of South Ealing Station then they'd be out of luck. As their ring had been found by some chap who clearly had no intention of handingit in. In fact he tried to sell it to me"However only afterwards did it occur to me that it was all a scam. Which it was. The same scam was/is quite common in Paris. As Google will confirm. Maybe its common in London as well andI should get out more. Anyway.I was walking along outside the Park opposite SouthEaling Station and it just so happened that this chapwalking in front of me bent down and apparently picked up a gold ring lying on the pavement. "Its not gold " I said to him without thinking. He immediately engaged me in conversation in broken English and was inmmediately able to make out the 375 engraved on the inside. (Now what'sthe chance of that happening as Harry Hill would say) When I suggested he hand it in Sainsburys he said he had no money and would I give him some money for the ring.Still not having "fallen in" at this stage I myselfgave him a sob story about how the person who'dlost the ring might have no money either. If I had too much time on my hands it might be entertaining to follow him around and watch him in action. In my opinion anyone who buys a "goldring" in such circumstances deserves all they get, as if it really is lost as they believe then theyare profiting from someone else's misfortune.michael adams

Business Rates Northfields Ave and South Ealing Road

It is heartbreaking to witness so many independent shops in Northfields Ave and South Ealing closing down. The receipt of this years Busiess rates will inevitably see an increase in closures.The two streets have some of the highest rateable values in the Borough after Ealing Broadway. We are charged £415 -£435 Per Metre Square. By comparison, shops on Pitshanger Lane pay £360 per Metre sq. My monthly business rates is now £760 per month.I would like to protest to VOA to reduce the per metre charge to then be reflected more fairly and equally across the borough.If anyone can help me to do this, business owners, RICS, surveyours, politicians, please add your support.
