Sky service

My broadband died on me on Thursday morning. The router box which normally flashes away like something from the Enterprise's control panels just gave the occasional blip. I called Sky (nice touch - it's free) and got through immediately. They started checking the line and connections calling me back on my mobile. After about 20 mins it was decided that my old modem had passed away in the night and that I would need a new one. Great. Just one snag. Delivery was 3-5 working days! No internet for a week! Next day at 2pm there was a knock at the door. Royal Mail with a package. I thought it may be something from EBay but no - it was the new router from Sky. Very easy to set up and within 10mins I was back online.So many thanks Sky. That is great service. I just wish more companies would be as efficient.

Face masks and pollution.

The recent air pollution was not good, I found it most uncomforable. I wonder how effective and efficient are the few face masks I've seen others wearing? Any experiences and views please?

The Forresters

We went there for the carvery yesterday lunchtime for Mother's Day. It was very impressive. Lovely staff and excellent service and the roast dinner was as good as home cooked. Was very pleasantly surprised and a far cry from the days of the awfully rude landlord who used to run the place. Will go back.

Car Insurance - Gents may find this interesting

So I received my renewal premium yesterday and it was £412.  Confused.com couldn't beat that but I've been meaning to put the other half on the policy for a while so created a new quote adding her as a second driver.  All of a sudden the female orientated insurers get in on the action and my new premium for both of us is £356 with Diamond!  And I get handbag cover included!

Free Office Furniture

Regretfully we're having to leave our St Mary's Road offices and we're taking the opportunity to divest ourselves of some good quality office furniture. If you need chairs, desks, cupboards or bookcases (limited quantity - with so many people working from home these days we're getting rid of about 5 people's things)) then you're welcome to collect before we either recycle or skip. The homeless charity we intended to give these to folded apparently.

Rounabout

The roundabout at the junction of Greenford Avenue and Uxbridge Road (Hanwell) is a total mess. 4 cars from 4 different directions - more like 1st one in. An ACCIDENT SPOT - IF EVER THERE WAS ONE. Crazy council plans  - yet again. look right, look straight then look up and pray. Amen

Petanque in Boston Manor Park

Less than a year since my last posting on the subject I am delighted to say that the Friends of Boston Manor successfully found the £7k (thanks to users of the café) to build the petanque terrain in Boston Manor Park which is now ready to use.We have the balls, or you can bring your own but need you to come down and make it happen!  The pavilion will be open during the Easter holidays (except Good Friday and the Monday)from 10 to 4.

I read a notice in the window the other day and it is now on the front page of the website.She opened a deli and cookery school in Acton and there have been positive comments on ActonW3.I heard her taking part in Jay Rayner's Kitchen Cabinet on Radio 4 seveal times.  She sounds very Scots!How long is Lent?

problems with bus passes

Twice his week my bank account has charged me for a bus journey due to my contactless debit card being activated by the contact pad in a bus rather than my freedom pass. I keep both in a wallet but the debit card is on one side and the pass on the other and I always make sure I put the pass on the pad.I have asked my bank (HSBC) if they can issue debit and credit cards without this feature as I will never use it.The charge is small but with millions of oyster cards and freedom passes tfl could be making a lot of money

Traffic jams at new roundabout

Following the extensive work on the new roundabout at Acton High Street/Steyne Lane,the build-up of waiting cars has become much worse, particularly coming from the Ealing direction along the Uxbridge Road.  Why is this, what have they done?   It was supposed to be an improvement!

Rare bats found at Ealing B'way station.

I believe a rare kind of bat has been found at Ealing B'way station. From initial accounts, this means that some kind of preservation order will re-route the proposed rail line around Haven Green. Strange this. Is someone 'pulling my leg'?

I don't believe it !

Forgive my 'Meldrewism' but they're going to have to dig up the road again. After major disruption to traffic and shopping in Mattock Lane at St John's Parade just by St John's Church, a serious water leakage has appeared in the road. That part of the road has only just been reinstated to normal traffic, after major gas repairs for nearly four wweeks. Main water flow underground isn't complicated engineering - the Romans and Egyptians and Chinese have been doing it for centuries - can't we get it right - I really don't believe it! I'm gotta lie down in a darkened room now, forgive me.
