Energy Therapists will be at the London Buddhist Vihara, The Avenue, W4 1UD on Monday, 9th December, between 11am and 1pm (last session 12.45).  This cold weather and dark days take a lot of our energy so do come and get a top up!  The actual session takes about 15-20 minutes and I am sure that you will feel really good at the end of that time.  A number of therapists come in each month and give their services free.  However, the Vihara allow us to use the hall at no charge so a donation is most welcome  -  all donations are given to the Vihara.These sessions are not related to any religion, everyone is welcome.

Noise monitoring?

One of our neighbours (more of a night owl than us) reports that last night there was a Vauxhall car parked in Denmark Road for several hours between 11 and 2.30 am.  It left and returned several times, and it had a listening device on top of the car.  The observant neighbour went out and asked what he was up to.  He said "that he was measuring decibels", and when asked whether that was for the council he said "ultimately".  The street was as quiet as anything last night - far too cold to be out for fun - and we were tucked up quietly in bed!It seems a little odd, but does anyone have any knowledge of what this is about or any idea what agency or department would be measuring decibels in the middle of the night?

Oversized recycling trucks causing damage

I stood and watched Ealings new Kerbsiders. probably the most dangerous and useless vehicles to be deployed on Ealings streets.Watching for the entire 20 mins it took the crew to cover just 100m of Chandos Avenue it is not difficult to see just how the recycling system is now so pi**poor.The vehicles are designed for wide roads with driveway parking to allow operatives to stay on the kerbside. Here they are being used in side streets barely wide enough to accomodate the vehicle.Consequently operatives have barely enough space to negotiate the loading side of the vehicle without clipping parked vehicles with the recycling bags and boxes.There is so little safe clearance that loaders have to place bags and boxes on parked vehicles or just do one bag or box at a time. Which clearly they now do.If you wondered where the scuffs and scratches on your car have come from look no further.In fact the operatives are very careful, clearly wary that these vehicles are dangerous to operate but this and care towards residents property has really slowed them up.Their wheelbase is too long for them to negotiate small streets easily. As are the new standard refuse trucks which have axle loads that exceed the loads recommended for victorian side street sewers, water mains and services.This is also a problem where raised crossings are placed on main roads. The resulting bounce caused by a bus or truck sends a shock wave several times the laden weight of the vehicle resulting in fractures to gas, water and sewer services.As usual, none of these factors have been considered in road projects or deployment of vehicles.But we really do need to know who the numbskull is that thought these machines would be a good idea.When the loader is operated, there is barely enough room for the operatives to keep clear it is an accident waiting to happen.It takes 4 times longer to load the vehicles and it is a very slow process.The loader comes perilously close to trees and street lights. In fact there is already visible marks of damage in Northfields and South ealing

Magical New Double Yellow Lines

In Hanwell, where Brookbank Ave, Elmbank Way, Cuckoo Dene, Gifford Gardens, Beechmount Ave, Beresford Ave and Mayfield Gardens join Bridge Avenue, we now have on the corners, brand new double yellow lines (and 20MPH speed limits painted into the roads). The yellow lines are good thing and will finally put paid to people parking their vehicles right on a corner, making it awkward at best and dangerous at worst, to join a road (take white van man for instance who parks right on a corner making it impossible to see what's coming when pulling out!).I was however wondering, as these appeared as if by magic, do Ealing Council not have an obligation to advise us residents that these road updates are taking place ? OK, you'd have to be blind to miss the new installations, but, I have seen a couple of neighbours parked over the new double yellows already (Not sure if they were ticketed).

Cannabis Factory found on Murray Road.

I was amazed to read that Police have discovered a..Cannabis Factory..on this nice quiet residential road,in South Ealing,as I happen to live on this road,and it had gone undetected for quiet some time,as police have said,those Cannabis Plants had grown as large as Xmas Trees,it is unbelievable as we also have a neighbourhood watch in this area,including.. Murray Road..a 17 year old has been charged,with this undispictable crime and rightly so before it gets into the wrong hands and destroys the future lives of others.

Indian sub-continent businesses in London

     Boris has been in India  banging the drum for the UK and London in particular, and apparently with a certain amount of success?. In his maiden speech, the MP for Ealing and Southall made comment re the two great countries and how proud he is to represent the peoples of Ealing etc. I am sure he has made many trips back home since his being the M P.  Does anyone know  what businesses he has managed to get set up in London from India. Would he not be the most obvious candidate for such an endeavour. I am not aware but did he accompany B J on the recent trip.

Colm Costello

Possibly as a result of his unfamiliarity with the areaand its history Cllr. Costello made a big mistake in tryingto play the Irish Card, in this particular part of London.All through from the 30's to the 60's at least, WestLondon in terms of the Great West Road Factories,The Western Avenue, Greenford with Lyons Rockwareand Glaxo etc, London Transport and others provided thousands of welcome jobs managerial, clerical,and manual  for Irish people wanting to avoid poverty and joblessness back home. Those thousands settled in Ealing, bought homes, and raised families many of whom still live in the Borough.And for all anyone can tell without ever being laughed at on account of being Irish , or of being "thick". And for the information of Cllr Costello the claim that there ever were " No Dogs No Irish" signs appears to be a fabrication.And of course this is hardly a recent phenomenon.the London Docks were mainly built by Irishlabourers who then settled in the area andwhose families were a foundation of the docklabour force.So scratch many Londoners and you won't need togo very deep to find some Irish blood.But of course the likes of a recent arrivalsuch as Colm Costello couldn't be expected to know that.Hence his surprise to discover that Cllr. Wall was in fact part Irish himself. Which apparently Cllr. Costellostill doesn't fully accept.Thus to many people of Irish descent, if not othersCllr Costello's ready resort to accusations of bigotry onthe part of Cllr Wall when this is totally unwarrented isdeeply offensive. One somehow suspects that Colm Costellohas led a relatively soft life, where prejudice andbigotry are things he's mainly read about in thebooks of his favourite author, Frank McCourt.Please don't forget that the only person on this forumwho has ever referred to the possibility of Irish peoplebeing described as "thick" is Colm Costello himself, postingas Mark Stevens. Nobody else. Looking for flat for filming (4 days, paid!)

Hello!I am a student filmmaker currently studying at Met Film School, at Ealing Studios.For a current (not school-related) short film project I am seeking a flat to shoot in for four days. The film is about a man's apathy and his inability to communicate with his wife.The apartment would need a bedroom, kitchen and living room. December smile - Bagpipe funeral

As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless Man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a Pauper's cemetery in the back country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost and, being a typical man,I didn't stop for directions.I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch.I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn't know what else to do, so I started to play.The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I've never played before for this homeless man.And as I played 'Amazing Grace,' the workers began to weep. They wept,I wept, we all wept together. When I finished I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car. Though my head hung low, my heart was full.As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, "I never seen nothin' like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."Apparently, I'm still lost... It's a man thing.
