Can we trust Ealing council leader Julian Bell?

Has Julian Bell had a change of heart over Ealing's ill and disabled?*He now says that he will "chain himslelf to the railings outside Ealing Hospital" to prevent it being demolished by bulldozers.Should we trust him because:*He tried to close the libraries down,*He closed down several disabled and illness support centres (LINX, Albert Dane),*He has cut Council Tax Benefit to many disabled and ill people and their carers,*He failed to listen to his electorate in Acton over the Oaks project,*He failed to listen to Southall residents (instead of the businessmen) over the Southall "White Elephant" car park.He knows that:The NHS will never demolish the building because it is too new and worth to much and intends plans to turn into an administrative back-office centre so:*He will never need to chain himself to the railings outside it.What he has failed to realise is that many Ealing residents (and clinicians) would dearly love to see Ealing hospital closed. It is known among the older community in Ealing as:*Its the place where you go to die.So what is he doing here?Is he about to re-open the LINK centre and the Albert Dane Centre, etc? Let us see his commitment in some action.

I used to think Come Dancing was naff!

There was a time when I wouldn't be seen dead for looking at TV progs like Come Dancing.  But now I confess to absolutely loving Strictly Come Dancing - it must be my senility! I can't wait for the weekend to see if Abbey Clancy or Sophie Ellis-Bextor or Susanna Reid or Fiona Fullerton or even big Ben Cohen make it to next week!  And as for Tess Daly and Claudia Winkle-thingy and old man Brucie Forthright(he's as old as I am!), I think they're marvellous - in fact Brucie's my favourite! Just like John Sargeant used to be! Bless 'em all.

Northfield tesco

Good to have a wider range of goods in the refurbished store although still no everyday value items. However outside the store it is an untidy mess with cages of cardboard boxes, trolleys etc. Should not facilities have been made in the design for these to be inside the building ?

Circus in Ealing  common

Just to say we went to watch the circus over the weekend and it was magnificent.It finishes on the 3rd Nov and I would recommend everyone to go and see it. I might even go again.You can pick up voucers from sweet shops that give you 50% off.Enjoy!!

Cllr Bell Standards Report. Bell to be cleared over Sahota affair

JULIAN BELL AND EALING COUNCIL - Time to prove you have the interests of residents at heart

I am a resident of Acton - but wanted to post about something that is of importance to all residents in Ealing.On Wednesday (16th) the council is to vote about a controversial development to build a tower block in the heart of Acton on the site of the Oaks shopping centre. (See article in the Evening Standard below)http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/stars-and-locals-campaign-against-dogs-dinner-shopping-centre-plan-in-west-london-8873630.htmlThe block is STRONGLY opposed by local residents - hundreds of whom turned out to meet councillors at a site visit. The residents are not opposed to building housing on the site. However they are opposed to the building of a high-rise tower block in the middle of a low-rise Victorian town centre. They are opposed to the building of a gated-development in the middle of an area which is widely-known for being a tight-knit community. And they are concerned about the population density proposed for the site which is massively in breach of London planning guidance.So why should people living in Ealing care?Because this is an issue that affects every resident in Ealing. Across Ealing there have already been a number of developments which will only continue to grow in number with the huge pressure on land and space in London. But the  Ealing Labour council’s record has not always been good in dealing with new developments. Often they are voted through by councillors who do not live in the area - and therefore think they can avoid electoral damage while local councillors can protest innocence. (As is the case with this development)And often the council seem completely out-of-touch with the views of local residents. In our case senior Labour councillors have been tweeting about the arrival of a supermarket as part of the development - not realising that locally this is widely opposed if it comes at the cost of having an ugly barracks built in our community.So the vote on Wednesday 16th is a test.It is a test for Julian Bell and his Labour council.  The council needs to demonstrate whether they care about the residents they serve.  They need to show that they are on the side of voters when faced with developers that seem to neither know nor care about the communities that they are building in.Julian Bell and the Labour council need to show they are on the side of residents.

Batten down t'hatches!

I hear there's gonna be an almighty stormy wind a blowing tonight and tomorrow. Remembering the last storm in 1987 - in the middle of the night, our then 4 or 5 year old daughter came into our bedroom and said meekly: "Mummy and Dad, there's a tree in my bedroom."  A tree in the street outside our house had fallen on to our front garden and a few branches were poking through our daughter's broken bedroom window. And poor old Mr Michael Fish hadn't bothered to let us know! Bah, another wretchedly misinformed expert!

Freak weather causes standstill in Ealing today

It is a good job it is half term this week because otherwise schools would have sent the children home anyway.This morning, all the buses (E2 and E3) were suspended along northfields avenue. They have now resumed but limited service.All the trains from Brentford station into waterloo were cancelled and still cancelled.It is a complete mayham out there.It seems whenever there is wind, snow, rain everything comes to a standstill.

Roofer

Thanks to the storms last night I now know I have a problem with my roof and as a result had water dripping into my bedroom.  Can anyone recommend a good roofer who will assess the damage and give a no obligation quote? Thanks

Beef dripping.

Where could I get a large carton of beef dripping in Ealing.  I've tried Waitrose, M&S, and sundry other emporiums(emporia?) to no avail. We're planning a Halloween night party, with 'toad-in-the-hole' Yorkshire pud batter. Am desperate!

Spitting in public

Just read that over 1,000 people have already signed a petition organised by Hounslow Council in favour of outlawing spitting in public.I hope Ealing Council takes a similar stand to outlaw this disgusting antisocial and unhealthy habit.We need to eradicate outbreaks of TB.

Trees down

The storm woke me up at 6.30 but I didn't venture out til midday only to find the tree outside had gone. Luckily I'd parked at the back last night. Hope everyone is OK

Tesco Northfield Avenue

Now that Tesco Northfield Avenue has redesigned it's store in order to maximise profits and space they appear to have now moved their storeroom outside and have empty metal storage containers full of cardboard on the pavement and round the speed camera.Is anyone else fed up with Tesco making Northfield Avenue look a mess?

Winter Fuel Payments.

Should this payment and other universal benefits be paid to everyone(as they are now) or should they be confined to those who have incomes of less than say £15,000 per annum?
