The Real Project Fear

Was chatting last night to a friend of mine who has some inside knowledge of what is actually going on in parliament.She told me that a number of MPs are afraid for their lives at the moment and that is having a significant effect on how votes are being cast. The problem is particularly bad for female Labour MPs in so-called leave constituencies and they aren't inclined to dismiss the murder of Jo Cox as a one off particularly with the thwarting of the plot to kill Rosie Cooper yesterday. They are all getting daily threats and are inclined to take them seriously which constrains them from voting the way they would like.Less seriously but just as relevant in terms of voting numbers is that my friend claims that many Tory MPs publicly advocating no deal or hard Brexit privately admit it would be a disaster and say that they are only doing so because they fear the wrath of their local constituency party members. Can it be right that a crucial decision is being taken on the future of this country by MPs who are acting under duress?

What on earth are Ealing Southall Labour party thinking?

The country is teetering on the brink of an economic catastrophe led by an apparently completely deluded Prime Minister who seems to have lost all grip on reality but members of the Labour party in Southall seem to think this is a bit of a sideshow. What is far more important is to get rid of long serving, hard working ethnic minority MP who has a massive majority.Is it really such a mystery that, no matter how inept the current government is, so many voters are unconvinced that Labour can offer a viable alternative?

Hardback books

Morning all.Do any fellow 'forumers' know of a charity shop that actually accepts (nearly) new hardback books?I won't donate to Oxfam and my other two two chosen 'High Street' charities (Cancer Research and BHF) and both overwhelmed with stock and are, as a consequence, not accepting donations at the moment.Any suggestions would be welcome.

No statement from Ealing Council on Sri Lankan massacre

I have searched but as far as I can see there has been no statement from Ealing Council about the massacre in Sri Lanka. The previous month when there was a similar atrocity in New Zealand the Council offered their thoughts and prayers to those affected and issue a message of solidarity. Although the latest horror involved a much larger number of people and British citizens were killed Ealing has not done likewise this time. This seems incongruous.

Is the Issue CLIMATE CHANGE or SOMETHING ELSE?

Storms blow across large areas and end up in neighbouring countries bringing with it Pollen,dust, incests and more. Rains and heavy Floods bringing in problems. If we are to cope with them why protest and add to the miseries by hampering the energies we do have to sustain the nation.It is Enviromental issues that get worse by the actions of not prioritising what is first to be tackled. We cannot order or Control the weather and Climate just yet

Huqsterism (hucksterism)?

Does anyone have a clue what this is really about?The Guardian,  24m ago 17:00As part of her effort to consult with MPs over Brexit, Theresa May agreed to see the Labour MP Rupa Huq, who went to Number 10 to lobby for a second referendum. Huq told May that she would vote for her deal if it were tied to a referendum. She said:    I said that it would be a huge climbdown for me, but I would let her deal go through - and there’s at least 100 like me - if it was subject to a confirmatory referendum.May told Huq was opposed to the idea, saying the result of the referendum had to be honoured. “I was saying ‘that was three years ago, you need to check’,” Huq said.Huq said she left the meeting “still not much the wiser” about which of May’s red lines would change in an effort to get a deal through.

The protests are begining to sound like anarchy .

My greatest fear arises more from the Nuclear Bombs being the threat that will destroy life on our planet. than climatic issues.  That will be the cause of Envronmental destruction around our world.  If it is true that the voting in USA politics were being engineered by influences of russia,could it not give such parties and opportunity to encourage chaotic and well meaning MOBS TOWARDS causing Anarchy here in theUK?

Who Will Speak For The Adulterers?

It has been quite noticeable that the protests outside the Sultan of Brunei's place in Osterley and the Dorchester Hotel have made it seem that the only problem with his new laws is that it will involve the stoning of homosexuals. While there is no dispute that the medieval brutality of this is abhorrent it does seem to be that the new laws cover adultery which I would imagine like here, is by far the 'crime' most likely to be subject to this sanction.You are going to have to accept my word that adultery is not something I have ever engaged in but many of the people who I most love and respect in this world have done. Given knowledge of their personal situations I cannot accept they have done anything let alone that they have committed a crime. However, in the protests against Brunei's laws there almost seems to be an assumption that it is less bad to stone adulterers than people from the LGBT community because the former have done something wrong. Shouldn't the protests be against stoning per se rather than the use of this barbaric group on just one of its intended targets?

Given the state of the streets and the general malaise at 'Bell Towers' do you think it is time for a new borough motto?The current one is: Progress with UnityI was thinking more of Tendimus ad mediocritatem which, roughly translates as "We aspire to (reach) mediocrity".Other suggestions welcome.
