Parking permit hike again

Whilst all the eyes are on the abysmal fiasco of refuse, I note from Ealing's website that parking permits have been increased again less than a year after the huge hike in fees.What the hell is going on?

Here we go again

No pickup of recycle or general waste for Gunnersbury Ave again this morning.  The website says Tuesday, the leaflet from the Council which was sent to all residents says Tuesday, but Enterprise seems to think it is still Saturday.  We don't care which one it is but please clarify which one.

Surely Oslo Killer is just getting massive publicity in court?

Although this is not a local matter but is anyone else sick of seeing this killer smirking in an Oslo Court and giving his side of the case?I would feel a lot happier that his comments are NOT broadcast, now should he be seen enjoying his day in court.How much more can the families of victims take?No emotion shown on his evil face - no regret - disgusting.

What does May Gurney say about all this?

If the Ealing contract was a profitable contract for May Gurney, I wonder how far they went to keep it?  Perhaps, Enterprise could undercut May Gurney by slashing costs such as man power, hours worked, # of vehicles.   Perhaps, it's time to make an enquiry with May Gurney.  After all, they recently picked up a very good contract with Bristol City which they claim will save Bristol £2.5m.  So why not Ealing?

New refuse and recycling contractor starts work?

The Garden Waste and the black sacks and food wast have been collected, but at 15:40 still no sign of the plastic and green box collection in the streets around here. Will they be working late?Has anyone seen them about today?I like to bring the bag/box in straight away, it was usually done before noon.

Beating the Bounds this Monday

Stuck for something to do with the kids that won't break the bank this Bank Holiday Monday? Come and Beat The Bounds, it's an old custom of walking around the Parish borders and smacking certain stones and marks with a stick to keep interlopers away. What could be more fun? It starts at The Fox in Green Lane at 12.noon and the 12km walk ends up back there a couple of hours later. It's an event that raises money for Hanwell Carnival (June 16th)so we hope you can get sponsored but come along anyway.Besum (stick) provided, comfy shoes are down to you.

HEALING IN CHISWICK

Due to Easter Monday we are a week later this month.  Healing will take place at the London Buddhist Vihara, The Avenue, W4 1UD, this coming Monday, 16th April between 11am and 1pm anyone who would like to receive healing, or just an energy boost, is more than welcome.  We will have a number of healers waiting to meet you.Although the centre takes place in the Buddhist Temple the healing is NOT related to any religion, it is totally non-denominational everyone is welcome.No charge is made for healing however a donation is most welcome - all donations are given to the Vihara for the use of the hall.No appointments are necessary.  For any further information please give me a ring on 0788 189 6449.

How long have you waited to have rubbish collected

I have kept a track of the roads in my ward to see which ones have been collected and which haven't. The leader of the council, to his credit has been very busy trying to get the roads collected, so when a road is not done, I tell him and he reports it to Enterprise. This morning I met a resident on Campbell road, having a fag outside his front door. I asked him, when their road is normally collected and he told me Tuesdays. This road has Hanwell station on it. Today is Monday so the last time their rubbish and the rest was collected was 13 days ago. My road is done on Wednesdays and I am still waiting for my recyclables to be collected. Thats 12 days now since I have had a collection of recyclables. HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD TO WAIT

Ball/street hockey (children and adult beginners programme)

Ealing's Missed collection - Update and Petition

I can update residents on a meeting tonight I had with with Ealing Council's Chief Executive.A number of things were highlighted during the meeting:• Confirmation that in the ward of Southfield (contains parts of Acton and Chiswick) 25 percent of roads have not had their waste collected this week.• Acceptance that their needs to be a change of policy so that streets missed out on a particular day should be treated with a higher priority.• Part of the cause of the problem was that the contractor had too few staff, they were not fully trained with the new collection vehicles and the collection rounds were larger than before.• That the backlog of uncollected waste is reducing borough wide and they hope to have no backlog by the end of this week.• Confirmation that better communication is needed from the Council when communicating with residents who have made complaints about the poor service.As you can imagine I am currently taking all promises from the Council, and their waste contractor, with a large pinch of salt. But tonight Ealing's Chief Executive was open and honest about the issues he is facing and I could see he is active in trying to ensure that the problems are not repeated next week.I have set up an on-line petition to get the Council to hold a review so that this type of poor service cannot happen again. Olympics

Council Leader forgot to mention Lillian Board who trained with London Olympiads at the old Alperton track & was an Olympic silver medalist. Unfortunately she was struck down with cancer & died in her early 20's. There is a street named after her in Greenford/Sudbury Hill.

Refuse and Recyling 9-13 April & missed collections

Refuse and Recycling Collections Next Week:Usual collection day     Revised collection day Monday 9 April           Tuesday 10 April Tuesday 10 April         Wednesday 11 April Wednesday 11 April       Thursday 12 April Thursday 12 April        Friday 13 AprilFriday 13 April          Saturday 14 April Refuse and recycling should be left at the front of the property, not on the pavement, by 7am on the collection day.Missed collections:The council is apologising to anyone whose recycling or refuse collection has been missed this week. The number of problems in the first week of the new refuse and recycling contract is unacceptable and our priority is to work with our new contractor, Enterprise, to get the service back to normal as quickly as possible. Extra crews have been working longer hours including Good Friday and Saturday to clear up any missed collections.  Crews will also be out on Easter Monday if required.

Hosepipe ban

Information on the hosepipe ban ....is the L B of Ealing included or exempt at present,as it will be grave concern for gardeners for weeks to come,especially those entering Ealing in bloom competition.....plus other various uses....then there's the queues at filling stations for fuel....supposed long waits at airports this weekend and travel on roads..... putting cold pasties on my shopping list to avoid (vat).....oh oh what a start to 2012....update on information on hoseban...thanks

Refuse collection

My carefully sorted recyclable rubbish was collected today, two days later than expected this week. The collectors appeared to throw it all into one large truck thereby mixing it up. Previously of course it was divided on the spot. Was I mistaken or have we taken a step back.

Update - missed collections and recycling issues

A number of people have asked about Ealing Council and the operations from the new contractor - in that they are taking residents' carefully sorted recyclables and they are dumping all together in the van.When I asked, this is meant to happen as the recyclables will be sorted out by a machine when the vehicles are emptied. I am informed that non-recyclables mixed in would be taken out via the machine.Sadly the Council did not exactly get across this message to all of us at an early stage.I have started a petition to get Ealing Council to review what went wrong and how the same can be avoided again. Marquee / Gazebo / Tent hire

Does anyone know a local company that hires out small-medium size marquees suitable for use in a back garden. Possibly 3m x 6m?The few big companies I've seen want to charge the same amount it would cost me to buy one!ThanksRob
