New Police contact number

In my new position as unpaid Met Police Press Officer I am delighted to inform readers that there is now a new number to phone police for non urgent reporting. And it is the memorable 101. Thank you West Ealing Neighbours for organising (Is this the Big Society?) tonight's event which discussed drugs problems in West Ealing. When I got home this was on the BBC News as well so if it ain't urgent 101 it.

Cinema,YMCA and Ealing Studios

I notice that after a much suspected stalled Cinema project that Ealing may well purchase the site of the Forum cinema in the Uxbridge road and link it in with a development of the Bond street YMCA site, creating an entertainment and recreational based centre.It's just a thought, but with the facade in Uxbridge road listed and retained, it would be good to have the Bond street facade utilise the other listed cinema facade, that of the Walpole Cinema, which still exists tucked away in Mattock Lane.It could be returned to just a few feet away from its original site and make a most fitting entrance to the other side of the complex.With the Film Studios, Heritage Quarter and the appropriate era theme that fits the district, I feel this would be a great opportunity to have something different and yet unify the towns heritage.

van parking on pavements

Well done taking action over this van, but action needs to be taken over cars parking on or partly on pavements, and also take action on cyclists who cycle on pavements, not only on this road but every road in the borough

Freeview signal problems today-W13

Really odd today. I have BT Vision installed and it's been working fine but this morning, I can't get Channel 4 or ITV via BT Vision or via TV. Keeps saying Freeview signal poor. Anyone else having this problem or know what it is? Can't be the aerial because BBC is working fine.

Odd behavior of this Forum

No, not a comment or complaint about flames, spamming, advertising or other unethical practice!I have noticed that occasionally a link back to the Forum Home page appears underneath the search button in the upper right.  The other link to Forum Home at the bottom left stays consistent.I have looked for a pattern in this behavior (e.g. first post, last post, unread or read post, number of prior posts in the thread) without success.  Has anyone else played "Hunt the Link" or have an explanation (other than that I must be a sad geek to worry about this - but I have been professionally involved in system usability testing in the past!)

Printer repair recommendations please

My printer has given up the ghost - the paper feed isn't working properly.  It's  good printer if not a little old so I would much rather see how much a repair costs than buy another one.Any local recommendations?

51 year old served with ASBO for his aggressive alcohol fuelled behaviour

Following the article, does anyone see a rather large NIMBY attitude. Banning him from Ealing just makes him go else where and become someone elses problem, when what I reckon he needs is some proper care. He's obviously got a few problems when it comes to dealing with everyday life etc, but there's no mention of any care in the community, just ban him and get rid.

Stray Cats - Northfields

There appears to be 2 stray cats in the Cranmer Avenue, Jefferson & Littlewood Close areas, one is black the other a long-haired large tabby and white, they are being fed by a couple of residents but it would be good to re-unite them with their owners if they have got lost,  but sadly, it is possible they have been abandoned.  I am a volunteer for a local animal rescue charity and abandonment is common. Standards in Public Life

Some few days ago for senior politicians to kiss Rebekah Brooks in public or to appoint Andy Coulson to a No 10 position was considered "part of the landscape". All that has changed. This close relationship  between this section of the press and politicians of both major parties has now been severed hopefully for ever. Closer to home and accepted as "part of our landscape" four top London Borough of Ealing officers swan off to Cannes for the MIPIM property fare accompanied by and paid for by a consortium of private developers. The justification is that it has been done before and a few other boroughs do it, oh and Boris turns up, so it must be OK then? Strange things happen in Ealing which might be explained by considering that this relationship also is too close.

What's up with Dickens Yard now?

Massive section of the Planning Notices section of the Ealing Gazette last Firday devoted to planning changes to the Dickens Yard development behind the Town Hall. Are the developers trying to pull a fast one on us by getting all sorts of stuff through now that they couldnt before?Any chance that we could block these planning applications and force the developers to build us a new swimming pool as part of Dickens Yard. Those Ealingites with longer memories will recall the swimming pools behind the Town Hall where part of the Dickens Yard development is located that were demolished some fifteen years ago by the then Ealing Labour Council with a promise that they would be replaced!I suspect a replacement swimming pool behind the town hall (albeit a little belatedly) would be somewhat more of a vote winner than a car park in Southall that no one wants.These new planning appications smack to me of the same type of subterfuge as allowed the creation of a long-time unused development of the Daniel building in West Ealing!
