Give your £50 Council Tax Rebate to Charity!

Story in the Gazette today about a charity in Ealing raising money by asking Ealing Council Tax payers to donate their pre election bribe - the £50 rebate due next month.  What a brilliant idea!I will donate mine to my son Patrick's New York Marathon fundraiser for Breast Cancer Care - http://www.justgiving.com/patrickmuir/. Patrick finished in 4h 39mins and has raised over £2500 to date for his late Mum's favourite charity I suspect most of you pay your council tax by Direct Debit so the rebate will not be too important in your budgeting. Missing ring

My mother moved to Ealing on Saturday 12th December and in the process lost her gold ring. It could be anywhere around Ealing Broadway as we were shopping in the high street and both the Arcadia and Ealing shopping centres. It has huge sentimental value as it has been in our family for generations and she is desperate to find it.Please, please get in touch if you have found it.

HEALING ON MONDAY

The coming Monday is the second Monday of the month therefore healers will be at the London Buddhist Vihara, The Avenue, W4 1UD between 11am and 1pm ready to welcome and give healing to anyone who turns up.  Healing helps any condition, through from stress to physical illness.  The healing takes about 20 minutes.  No charge is made for healing (all the healers are working on a voluntary basis) however, a donation is most welcome - all donations are given to the Vihara).No appointment is necessary, waiting time, if any, is 5-10 minutes.  For any further information please give me a ring on 0788 189 6449.

Collection for family of Greenford Roundabout stabbing victim

A collection is being taken for the family of Ian Newtion, who died following an assault in a subway at Greenford Roundabout in March. This is the first Christmas that his family will go through without their relative whose death is still being investigated.Any money collected will be passed on to the family through the Greenford Green Safer Communities Team by Councillor Sue Emment. It is hoped that it will used to defray the family's expenses or be put towards a memorial and is intended as a mark of respect.At present you can donate at the Railway pub at the junction of Rockware Avenue and Oldfield Lane North (near Greenford Station). I have to say that I would be cautious of ANY review which begins with an obvious error.I wonder when it was that the reviewer sat at the junction of Northfields Avenue and Windmill Road waiting for the lights to change? There have never been traffic lights there.

The family from Afghanistan still in Acton mansion at our expense

According to the Daily Mail today this Council is STILL throwing £12,458 of our hard-earned cash away every month to keep just one Afghan family in luxury in the 7 bedroomed Acton mansion - despite it being more than a year since this was first brought to tax-payers' attention. The mother's seven children STILL enjoy the luxury of a bedroom each, at our expense, whilst many of us are stuck permanently in over-crowded accommodation - and there isn't a hope in hell of our own kids doing nearly so well out of our hard work as they are being left with the legacy of debt and shortage of affordable housing we are leaving them to inherit. The Afghan lady's 21 year old, business student son owns an almost new Mini Cooper!!! How is this odone on benefits??!! No doubt he gets all his student tuition free too and a grant to live on while our kids just get more debt! This one family scoops a whopping £170,000 IN BENEFITS EVERY YEAR! How can ordinary people be being asked to stump up to pay for things for people who've never paid a penny into the system when we couldn't even hope to afford these things for ourselves and our own families? This frustrating waste of our money is on top of the same Council's arrogant and wasteful throwing of thousands, if not millions, of pounds of OUR council-tax in CRAZY £50 rebates AT PEOPLE WHO DON'T EVEN PAY COUNCIL TAX and wasting a further million ignoring advice and risking more of our money in a collapsed Icelandic bank. Is this really all our out-of-touch local politicians think us tax-payers are good for?

Ealing Bomb damage

Following on from the recent Ealing Common thread about air raid shelters, it was suggested that I read "A little Boys War by Roy Bartlett".  Done that, but have some questions about the photos.On Page 140 there is a photo of West Ealing shops after a raid and I am trying to picture what is there now.  There is a shop called Van Rhee clearly visible, anyone know what is there now?ThanksG

Went to Fogo Last Night.....

Good points - dazzling array of non-stop meats carved from swords at your table - chicken, turkey, ribs, sausage, beef, lamb (my favourite). Lovely salads and dips - standard to the unusual. Huge portions for dessert. Freindly staffBad Points - expensive drinks, cold rice and cold chips. Green salad but no salad dressing at all (I asked, they didn't have any). Restaurant still smelled of paint.
