Where is the promised Christmas tree?

I recall that when Tesco moved to the Hoover Building they promised to maintain the tradition of the Christmas tree. So where is it? Last year's was tatty. This year, nothing. I shall be passing this complaint to them.

Ryans Bar in Hanwell is closing!

They just announced on Facebook that they are closing as of today but will be open on Saturday for goodbye last drinks - what a shame

Did anyone use EB Station Today

I arrived at around 8.30am this morning faced with a huge queue of people trying to get in and out of the station. In their infinite wisdom Tfl decided to close one set of stairs to lay what looked like some form of rubber grip to stop people slipping. Why they couldn't have done this out of peak hours I do not know!

Council Authority to Remove Cars with Permits

On Friday evening I needed to use my car which I had parked in the road adjacent to where I live - I point out that I have a parking permit and it entitles me to park in several streets in the surrounding area where I live. When I walked to the place where I had parked my car last (over 4 days previously) it was not there. Fearing the worst (my car had been stolen) I phoned the police to report it missing. They advised me to ring the "Trace" line to see if my vehicle had been moved - at this point I told them that I had parked my car in an appropriate bay and was not overhanging any white line and that my permit entitled me to park in said road.I phoned the "Trace" line and was told that my car had been moved by the council but could not tell me why only that it must have been an emergency. Asked why I was not informed they could not give me an answer although they did tell me which road it had been taken to although whereabouts they could not pinpoint.On phoning the council this morning I found out that there were emergency road works that needed to be done and that they move my car to do them. This I do not primarily have a problem with - if it was an emergency fair enough - what I do have a problem with is the fact that they moved my car without informing me, causing me anxiety and stress. When asked why they didn't have the courtsey of leaving a note through my door I was told they couldn't due to the data protection act.Are they actually allowed to do this? Has this happened to anyone else?

Carpets

I think this has been asked before but we need a new carpet for the stairs and landing. We used CarpetRite before and they were terrible and we went to John Lewis and they didn't have much choice. Any suggestions for good retailers in the area? Thanks

Gas fitter

We've bought a new cooker and it has a bayonet fitting. We need a Corgi (or whatever it is now) fitter to plug it in. It won't take long and so we don't want to be ripped off. Any recommendations?Thanks all..........

What's Happened to the Season of Goodwill?

Please correct me if I am wrong - are we or are we not, about to celebrate Christmas? The time when all people regardless of beliefs, put their animosity behind and treat their fellow human beings with respect and kindness?All I've seen over the last few days is constant bickering and backbiting. Give it a rest, please.

I'm  dreaming of a white Christmas...

... just like the ones I used to know.Aside from the awful English, while I was humming this yuletide anthem this afternoon (I cannot sing at all) it occurred to me that this may be the first song to identify global warming as it is suggesting earlier Christmases within living memory had snow but none recently.Similarly many Christmas carols suggest the presence of snow around Bethlehem. Was it an exceptional winter 2 000 odd years ago or the norm?

Where is Martin Smith?

Two months ago Ealing Council trumpeted the appointment of Martin Smith as the new Ealing Council Chief Executive. He replaced the somewhat invisible Darra Singh who went to the Job Centre for a new job.Has anyone seen Martin Smith? Has anyone heard him speak? Do we know what his views and aspirations are for Ealing? What does he think about the Glenkerrin Arcadia decision? At an annual salary of over £170,000, it's not unreasonable to expect to see him and hear him in the Ealing public domain.Any clues anyone?

traffic improvements to Ealing

good news that money has been allocated to improve traffic safety in ealing.  does anyone know whether this includes work to improve badly needed improvements on Boston Road, eg at the junction of trumpers way, and at the junction of Church Road/Uxbridge Road?

Haven Green Xmas Market - Come Visit my Stall

Hello AllI am running a gift stall tomorrow at the xmas market.  Vintage style gifts, i.e. sewing boxes, cushions, trinket pots, mugs, funky doorstop, cute toys and more!The entrance is round the back of all those white tents on the green!!  There are some other great stalls there including lots of food stalls and an excellent mulled wine stand.So any last minute panic buyers come and visit!Merry ChristmasAmy

Early Recycling/Rubbish Collections w/b Sun 20 Dec 09

Hurray we have had info put through our letterbox telling us about the Christmas recycling and waste arrangements AND an updated leaflet on what we can recycle in our kerbside collections.If you haven't you'll find it on the www.ealing.gov.uk website where you can check out the collections which have changed and are a day or two earlier than usual.

December smile

A priest and a nun are on their way back from a funeral in rural Ireland when their car breaks down. Since it is late at night they decide to stay at a local hotel but there is only one room... Priest: "Sister, God in His mercy will not be displeased if we share the room for just one night. You take the bed and I'll sleep on the sofa." So the priest and the nun say their prayers and settle down to sleep. But after 10 minutes the nun becomes cold... Nun: "Father, I'm terribly cold". Priest: "Ok Sister, I'll fetch you a blanket from the cupboard". Another ten minutes passes... Nun: "Father, I'm still terribly cold". Priest: "Ok Sister, I'll fetch you another blanket". Yet another ten minutes passes and the nun whispers softly... Nun: "Father, I'm still cold. I don't think God would mind if we acted as man and wife for just one night". Priest: "My Sister, you're right."    "FETCH YOUR OWN BLANKETS!"

Eve makes £600,000

Saw the painting this morning that was hidden in Hanwell library and it made £600K in Auction a few minutes ago. It will be interesting to see how it is spent. Fabulous work and so big. It would need to be Hung on a very large wall in a very grand building so not the sort of thing for any local buildings. so slightly less than estimates but perhaps the size would put some people off.
