Art shop in west ealing

I may be going mad (don't all shout at once, orderly queue please) but I am sure there is an art supply in West Ealing - I looked and looked this morning and I can't see it. It was down towards Northfields Ave.

Beware of Residents Parking in Pay&Display bays!

Apologies in advance for this small rant... I received 2 PCN's for not "Paying & Displaying" when I left my car parked for 4 days in a Pay & Display Bay on The Grove, in a bay that I believed to also be a residents parking bay. And the reason I thought that? In addition to a "Pay & Display" sign there was also a "Zone A Residents Parking Only" sign.  My first appeal against these tickets has been rejected.  Instead of receiving the two PCN's in the post, I have received SIX PCN's - so not surprisingly I'm a little miffed at where the other 4 have come from since they weren't attached to my windscreen. Not only that but the "Zone A Residents Parking Only" sign has now been mysteriously removed by the Council. I'd have thought that this is an admission of their guilt, but I'm still having to spend far too much time writing to the Council to dispute these tickets.So it leaves me thinking that the Council are trying it on in the hope that I just pay up to avoid the fine increasing (which it already has once, and will again if I lose the next appeal). And it leaves me thinking that if wardens are rewarded for giving out parking tickets then they should be punished (commission docked) for giving out parking tickets that are successfully disputed - does this happen?? Plus I should receive compensation for the amount of my time that is wasted with such ridiculous parking tickets. In fact now that its gone this far I'm kind of hoping that it goes to Court so that I have the potential to get compensation for time wasted.

Northfields late night shopping evening this Wednesday

Gift shops, hairdressers, florists etc in Northfields Ave will be open till 9pm on Wednesday offering discounts and other promotions.

School League tables

Hi would it be possible to include W7 schools in this article please; we are still residents of Ealing borough. I'd be interested to see how schools such as hobbayne, mayfield, oaklands and st marks performed in comparison. Also when you're writing about house prices, same request applies. Thanks

£50 Tax rebate

Ealing Council are so generous handing back £50 to council tax payers they have even paid the £50 to non tax payers-ones that are on DSS and have the council tax paid for them. Need they be so generous with our money.JJ

TOWN HOUSE REDEVELOPMENT

The proposal to turn this site into two bars is ridiculous. The place will become another haunt for chavs and troublemakers.Has Ealing not learnt a lesson here?Pizza Express (Bond Street) premises is far too small - why not invite them to move and open a new branch in the Town House?I am sure there are other reputable companies/restaurants who would die to open  a restaurant here. Ealing has "bars" coming out of its ears - for goodness sake, not two more!This site has to attract a better class of clientele. That end of town (The Mall) has more than enough naff already.Nine flats above would be a nice idea - but they would sell a lot better if there was something decent beneath.

Which Ealing Christmas tree?

I think we are going to buy a tree on Sunday and I'm relatively new to this tree buying malarkey. I have a small list of needs - 5/6 ft-ish, nice shape and doesn't drop pesky needles!My last (and only!) two came from Wyevale nr Syon Park, but it would be nice to buy more locally.Any suggestions on type and place to buy?I hear the place near the hotel just off the Common is good, but I'm not sure what to look for - all advice is gratefully received!thanks,Melissa

Bollo Lane/Gunnersbury Lane junction changes

Not sure whether to laugh or cry. The lights have been replaced with a mini roundabout.Northbound from Bollo Lane is now only single lane (no righthand turn lane now to ease the queue). The lights controlled pedestrian crossing (Bollo Lane to the tube station) is now a "normal" crossing, where traffic has to constantly give way....ie  morning rush hour is going to be carnage for traffic movement and potentially dangerous for pedestrians.Obviously some bright spark thinks that is going to improve the junction.........in fact all that was ever needed was northbound traffic to have a left hand filter when the righthand filter from Gunnersbury to Bollo was operating.

GSK Shuttle service bus using side roads

I've noticed that the bus used for the shuttle service between Northfields tube and GSK has started to run along Mayfield Ave and Northcroft Rd to enable it to turn around - as opposed to going up to Leighton Rd and turning around on the double junction. I wouldn't have thought that these roads are suitable for a vehicle of this size - does anyone know if there are are restrictions on buses using these roads?

65 Bus Route

I have personal experience of how poor the 65 bus route is, but - equally - I'm sympathetic to a route that has to follow some of the narrowest yet busiest roads in west London.  It's a struggle down to the Gt West Road, and another battle to get to Kew Bridge.  And it doesn't get any better all the way to Kingston.  These roads were built in the 1850s so it's no surprise the 65 double-deck bus cannot cope with the congestion caused by bumper-to-bumper private and commercial vehicles.  That and staff absenteeism.  Well, would you want to be a bus driver who also has to collect the fare, loathed by every passenger who climbs aboard?

A word of warning to car owners parked in a CPZ

I got a parking ticket the other day, for reason "permit not visible".Not visible my foot. Admittedly my plastic permit holder had lost some of its "stick" and fallen away slightly from the windscreen. However, it was still easily visible, as the photos why wife took well attest.I think one can reasonably conclude that the jobsworth parking attendants will use any technicality, no matter how minor or unjust, as a reason to issue a ticket. So my advice is, make sure your permit holders stick properly!I'm sure this doesn't come as news to anyone, but I just needed to have a rant.

Ealing Dean CPZ - Carew, bits of Elers / Lavington to go

hi!I see that Carew (where I live),Loveday, the rest of Lavington and the section of Elers between Culmington and Carew are going to become a CPZ from Jan 2010, yet the rest of Elers isn't and Kinsdowne even voted to not become a CPZ!I voted against it first time around on the basis I object to paying to park outside my own house - then we became Ealing's (and TVU's) unofficial car park, with unbelievably congested and silly/dangerous parking, so 2nd time around I needed no convincing.I feel VERY sorry for the rest of Elers, and am stunned Kingsdowne didn't learn the lessons from Carew....Any thoughts?

Chanukkah is coming!

Chanukkah will begin 12 December this year.    If you are looking for a place to celebrate, why not come to Ealing Liberal Synagogue? We will be having a Shabbat Chanukkah (Vayeshev) Service on Saturday 12 December at 10:45 am and a Chanukkah Tea Party on Sunday 13 December from 4 pm.
