Northolt Pub Burns Down

Rumour has it that a pub in Northolt was burnt to the ground recently. Pubs burning down is probably not good - there's enough of them going bust any way.Any details anyone?

Squatters in the Town House

I see that the Town House pub has now been taken over by squatters who have wasted no time in putting blankets and sheets up over the windows - what a mess. WIth this, the awful litter problem (despite the best efforts of some road-sweepers), the closed shops and general delapidation in the town centre, Ealing is quckly looking very shabby - hardly the Queen of the Suburbs anymore - what a shame.

CPZ Chaos

At the last Northfield Ward Forum Cllr Millican refuse to add Birkbeck Radbourne and Ealing Park Gardens to the nearby CPZ. Why? They returned a "yes" vote. He said there would be no "Salami Slicing" and residents went off angry. Strange then that "salami" changes to "core" in the current round of consultations in W13 and that such additions of Lancaster Carew Lyncroft and a tiny part of Elers Road seem possible. Such inconsistency is in part the result of very poor guidance in the review produced by Cllr Barchuk and Mr Iqbal. In addition designers of CPZs have the arrogance to assume that they can plan zones without any measurements. Ealing Dean CPZ cause displacement problems from day one. No one would make a long journey by car without a fuel gauge. Such is the quality of the analysis.It would all be laughable if it didn't endanger Northfield shops. No worker parking in a CPZ + no car park = no shops.The whole thing is a shambles.

Mystery bus

I sometimes see a white bus with no passengers and no bus number travelling along Northfields Avenue. It says Northfields / Brentford on the front.Any ideas?

Brentford Football Club - 09/10 Season off to a cracking start

Yes, it's that time of year again.The Bees were away to Carlisle on Saturday and thrashed them 1-3.  If it hadn't been for Norwich's crushing 1-7 defeat by Colchester and Gillingham's 5-0 trouncing of Swindon, Brentford would be top of League One instead of third. I know that's not saying much after one game but, you know, it's better than being Norwich...Brentford are still running their fantastic offer of a family ticket for £20 a game.  These cover groups up to 5 people and 1 or 2 of the group must be adults.There's also a real bargain to be had for under 16s who can buy a season ticket for £60 (less than £3 per match).Further information on tickets can be found here http://www.brentfordfc.co.uk/page/TicketNews/0,,10421~1070594,00.htmlBrentford have some interesting opponents this year - Southampton, Norwich (can't wait for that one) and Leeds as well as other London clubs such as Charlton, Leyton Orient and Millwall.  Slightly further afield we have games against Gillingham, Wycombe and Brighton & Hove Albion.All in all, it looks as though we are in for exciting times. Tougher opposition, for sure, but we can be tougher still.Tonight we play Bristol City in the first round of the Carling Cup and on Saturday we are home to Brighton.  Why not come and join us?

Hanging Baskets

I did a delivery this evening from Acton to West Ealing and driving down the Uxbridge Rd (and back again) in the late afternoon sunshine, I noticed how beautiful the hanging baskets were. I have no idea how much they cost to erect or maintain but they're worth every penny. They really make the area look so much better. (But how come none on the stretch along Ealing Common??)

Help re: local laws on livestock

Hiya,Seeing as I have found myself with a Cockerel who has recently found his cock-a-doodle, does anyone have any idea where I can find info on local laws on keeping him in my garden?Nobody has complained as yet, but if they do he will have to go.I have grown quite attached to Barry (the cockerel formerly known as Betty the hen) and don't want to get rid of him unless I absolutely have to.Any help appreciated!Sam

FREE HEALING IN CHISWICK

The coming Monday is the second Monday of the month therefore healers will be at the London Buddhist Vihara, The Avenue, W4 1UD between 11am and 1pm ready to welcome and give healing to anyone who turns up.  Healing helps any condition, through from stress to physical illness.  The healing takes about 20 minutes.  No charge is made for healing (all the healers are working on a voluntary basis) however, a donation is most welcome - all donations are given to the Vihara).No appointment is necessary, waiting time, if any, is 5-10 minutes.  For any further information please give me a ring on 0788 189 6449.

Volunteering in Ealing

I am a student who is in Ealing for the summer and have a lot of time on my hands. I was wondering if anyone knew of any volunteering opportunities in the area that would be relatively easy to get involved in with no long term commitment? For example, a soup kitchen?
