Can someone lend me a drum kit?

Has any kind person got a drum kit (real or electronic) that they do not use and would be willing to lend me until November 22nd? My band of grizzled Actonians is rehearsing for a charity gig at the George and Dragon on the 21st, and we are using a young drummer whose kit has to remain at home (except for the actual gig). The kit would be kept in a studio and would be well looked after. I know it's a lot to ask, but can anyone help, please? Thanks.

September smile

This blonde decides one day that she is sick and tired of all these       blonde jokes and how all blondes are perceived as stupid.  So, she       decides to show her husband that blondes really are smart.                                                                                        While her husband is off at work, she decides that she is going to paint a couple of rooms in the house.  The next day, right after her husband  leaves for work, she gets down to the task at hand.                                                                                                   Her husband arrives home at 5:30 and smells the distinctive smell of      paint.  He walks into the living room and finds his wife lying on the     floor in a pool of sweat..  He notices that she is wearing a heavy parka   and a leather jacket at the same time.  He goes over and asks her if she  if OK.  She replies yes.  He asks what she is doing and she replies that  she wanted to prove to him that not all blonde women are dumb, and she wanted to do it by painting the house..                                                                                                            He then asks her why she has a parka over her leather jacket.  She        replies that she was reading the directions on the paint can and it  said....                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        "FOR BEST RESULTS, PUT ON TWO COATS."

West Ealing Neighbours - Public Meeting - 30th September 7.30pm

Please find below a brief outline of the topics for our next public meeting which is on Wednesday 30th September in Dean Hall (off Singapore Road) starting at 7.30pm: 1. Report back on our work about improving pedestrian safety at the Lido Junction.  This meeting will be the public launch for our proposals not just about improving the Lido Junction but also improving some of the traffic and pedestrian problems in surrounding roads. 2.  The problem of street drinking, especially in Dean Gardens, gets raised at almost every local meeting about West Ealing.  We hope to get at least one speaker from the Council or its agencies to tell us more about what they are doing to help street drinkers and if, for example, we as residents should lobby for more services to help tackle this problem. 3.  What will be the impact of climate change and the eventual running out of oil on our lives?  More importantly, what should we be doing about it now?  Trevor Sharman from Ealing Transition, a new group set up to look at these issues and do something about them locally, will explain more about what they mean and what practical steps we could begin to take locally to prepare for the imapct of these two events.  4. WEN has been working hard with the Council to find ways of making use of the 'dead space' at the top of St James Avenue and to counteract the impact of empty shops by making use of their windows for various displays - local art, local history photos etc.  We would very much like to hear your ideas on this and any other local issues that concern you. WEN blogWe have just launched a WEN blog http://www.westealingneighbours.org.uk/WEN-blog/ which we're using to follow the public consultation on the Local Development Framework - Ealing's future from 2011-2026. I hope you can take a few moments to dip in and let us know what you think about the way the Council is trying to decide our future.

Recycling bags

It's only about 18 months or so since the recycling bags were distributed by the Council (or is my memory playing tricks?).  The bags were supposed to last about 3 years, I think.  I don't know if this part of Ealing is unique, but all the houses hereabout seem to now be sporting very tatty broken down recycling containers.  Our plastics bag became totally unusable, so we managed to order a new one from the Council.  After about 3 weeks, it mysteriously was swapped for a falling-apart one (with a number 47 written on the flap - but none of the streets around here go up to that number!).Isn't it time for Ealing Council to accept that these bags are not fit for purpose, find a more long-lived replacement and swap them out?

Has Terracotta closed: part two

My girlfriend has just informed me that there is newspaper in the windows of the Northfields deli. At the risk of inviting abuse from the owner, I ask the question; has Terracotta closed for good? Or is it just having another facelift. I can't imagine it's gone out of business as the owner made it clear on this very forum it was doing better than ever.

Gunnersbury Park Consultation

I appreciate that this topic may be covered elsewhere, in which case if someone could direct me appropriately I'd be grateful.If not, I'm a bit disappointed that the consultation leaves one with options I wouldn't find welcome.I'd also be interested in joining an action group to look at more interesting ways in which the park can be updated and enjoyed by all in Ealing  and further afield.Personally, I would interested in a forming a trust of sorts, with perhaps the council as a partner, to run, maintain and enhance the facilities which, let's face it, are pretty dire.  Richard.

Famous people that you've spotted in Ealing?

Hmmmm I guess that I'd better go first....Paul Whitehouse (of 'The Fast Show') stood outside M&S (with a carrier bag). Dennis Waterman propping up the bar at the 'Red Lion' pub in South Ealing (admittedly just across the road from the film studios so hardly a surprise!)And here's a very obscure one - David Easter ('Pat Hancock' in the golden days of 'Brookside' + more recent appearances in 'Family Affairs' 'The Bill' and 'Holby City') I spotted entering Primark in the Ealing Broadway Centre with his partner. I know that JK, the lead singer of Jamiroquai used to busk outside Ealing Broadway tube station but unfortunately I never saw that first hand.Any others?

Colour Ad in the Ealing Gazette & Leader - £8!!!

Did anyone else receive an email from Ealing Gazette last week offering a colour ad in that paper and Leader for £8??'' Promote your restaurant business for £8'' it proclaimed in big bold black and red letters. Big colour photo of a table setting. I received a follow up today advising that the offer finished on 30Sep. So, I clicked the links, constructed the ad online using their templates and entered the promo code. Which was rejected. Then asked for  £65 plus VAT!I phoned the number given in the email. They had no idea about the offer or email but said they would get back to me.9pm tonight I received an apology email from the Gazette. Not £8 (that was just line ads and wouldnt appear in the appropriate section). Promo code was wrong. New promo code and new price given. Should read £46. plus VAT.All very strange. Anyone else get the emails and tempted to place an ad??

Collecting stamps for charity

I am an Ealing teacher who is raising funds to return to South Africa to work with children who have HIV/Aids.  I am collecting any stamps from any date and from any country.  Tear around the stamp about 5 cm and keep them in a pile.  E-mail me at dfick@hotmail.co.uk and I will pick them up. The emotive WW1 event in Brentford yesterday with marching troops

The sight of troups and cadets marching down Brentford High Street doesn't happen often  but it did yesterday. The 2nd Battalion of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers no less.They were on their way to Brentford Library in Boston Manor Road where the WW1 memorial was being re-located and rededicated.  All the organisers..including Houmslow Council..did a topnotch job and the pictures and stories relating to the Event are worthy of study.Lot's seems to have been happening in TW8 this year!Have a look.
